My wife's grandparents weathered out that blizzard in a small cabin they lived in near what is now the ski jump area over in Bloomington/Eden Praire, just south of 494.  Luckily, Grampa had run for groceries the night before, as they had babies to feed.  It took him all day after the storm to shovel out the door to the cabin.  Somehow, someone  got to them to check on them and brought milk, water, and food for the kids.  Grampa had shot a deer that fall, and they still had meat.  They weathered the storm, and it changed their lives.  Grampa said they never were critically low on essential foods and water after that.  He had learned his lesson and wouldn't let it happen again.
