I'm looking to buy a new chainsaw.  I really like the stihl ms 271 farm boss.  Ordering 1 with a 20 inch bar.  What does every one own?  I've owned several Poulan wild things. They usually only last 2 years before burning up. Time for an upgrade.

Can't beat a Stihl. The other ones are all just light duty homeowner trimmers, IMO. Don't see Arborists, utility, or tree companies running anything BUT stihl.

I have vast knowledge of this....trust me...

We make parts for all chainsaws, cylinders, crank caps, clutch covers and pistons.

I can tell you that STIHL has the highest quality standards than any other chainsaw I've ever seen.
Even their low end chainsaw is higher than all.

If you are going with Husqvarna, buy an actual Husqvarna top end saw....Poulan is just a cheaper version of a Husqvarna, same with a Craftsman.

If you want to know who makes what....I can tell you, just ask.

I agree with HD, I own a 291 farmboos love it, I just don't like the cheap plastic chock on off control, the meatl clip will sometime slip underneath when turn from high chok to low chock

My little saw is an old poulan bout 20 years old, runs good still, which is ight and use for dropping limbs.  Ground work my 455 husqvarna rancher with a 20 " bar does really well. Stihl makes some nice saws, we have two smaller ones at the cabin but the husky gets the nod for the bigger work. The good thing bout Stihl there is a service center in just about any town,  unlike the imports. I think the nearest husky dealer to me is about 20 miles away but I havnt needed it yet.

I guess you asked what we have.....

I have a Poulan Pro that I use for light stuff. (trimming)

But, I have 2 saws that I use for the heavy stuff "BIG" logs...These saws are over 30 years old and still kick the crap out of any saw. Heavy saw, made by McCulloch. It's a big boy saw!

I believe they are still in business.....

Ahh, back on my day, we tied an angry beaver on a stick and went to it.  :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
Back in early 70's, I had an 18" Homelite I cut firewood for my heat with...good saw.

I'm on my second throwaway saw.  The first one was a Mac that lasted about 15 years. Now I've got a Poulan, and so far it's holding up pretty good, but all it gets used for is light work around the yard.  If I was doing any amount of work, I'd get a Stihl or a Husqavarna.  For just trimming up around the yard, the Poulan works okay.

Our 1st one up here was a small Homelite & didn't last that long. The 2 we have now are Jonsered, bought the small 1 new but got the bigger saw up at the flea market for $25. Work for what we need

I've got a 15 yo McCullough that I think seized last year, as I was just finishing a limb cut. Didn't have time to jack around with it. Does have a stamp on block that rates total hour expected usage and says "light duty". Might haveta check it out one of these days...!  :azn:

The two I got have 24" bars on them. I bought them both used from a logging company. Not sure if they "modified" them in anyway...but, they sure do bark when you fire them up. You need to wear hearing protection, otherwise you get a massive headache just running them for a few minutes.

028 Wood Boss a Sthil that is 35 years old, can't remember how many thousands of dollars I have made over the years dropping trees with it as a handyman. Also have the small 12" for trimming but in the last ten years I have used a very light weight electric Remington pole saw for trimming and light work. Seems the older I get the heaver the saw gets. I try and do most of my saw work first thing in the day before I start to tire out that and always use  sharp chains.

I run an Echo CS520 with a 20" bar. Bought it about 15-16 years ago from a guy in Big Lake that sold both Echo and Stihl. Hr like d the Echos better. He said he would do service would on the stihl 3 to 1 over the Echo. The saw has a ton of power and is light weight too. We usually 25-30 cord of wood a year with it. I also just bought a little Stihl saw last summer. A MS170 i think with a 16" bar. Just wanted a small saw to take camping, doing lite stuff around the house and for bear baiting.
Hey look your bobber is up!

Ayup....

Didja hear about what happened to Glenn a few years back? Decided he wanted to be the "logger type", so went and bought a chainsaw. Took him forever to cut any wood; so he took it back to the store and complained to the salesman how hard it was to cut with it. Salesman says "Well, let's check this out''. He gives it a pull and starts it up....RRRRRRRR...
Glenn says: "What's that?!"    :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Echo is the only other one I'd consider...from what I've heard. Haven't ever actually used/worked on one, but word around us wrench heads is that they're solid stuff.

Echo does make some good stuff. I bought a weed whacker 22 years ago (I believe, or close to it) and it's still running strong.

When I was doin the lawn care thing all the leaf blowers & string trimmers we had were Echo. Keep gas in 'em & clean the air filter once in a while is all I had to do.
