Thielen makes it into Pro Football Hall of Fame -- in a way

MINNEAPOLIS -- Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen has made it to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Or at least the ball he caught last Sunday to set an NFL record has.

In the fourth quarter of a 30-20 loss to New Orleans at U.S. Bank Stadium, Thielen caught a 27-yard pass from Kirk Cousins to reach 100 yards receiving for the eighth straight game to start the season. That broke the NFL record Thielen had shared with Charlie Hennigan of the Houston Oilers, who had 100 or more yards receiving in each of the first seven games in 1961.

The ball soon will be put on display at the hall of fame in Canton, Ohio.

4 Week 11 matchups that are essentially playoff games!

 :reporter; ........ :coffee:
It's that time again. Let's start getting nervous about the playoffs. The funny thing is, the playoffs are more than a month away. That doesn't mean these games don't matter. These wins or losses could be tiebreakers. With a lot of divisions almost wrapped up, there are really only a few spots left. Think about it, the AFC East is most likely going to the Patriots. The AFC North is the Steelers to lose unless they implode. The AFC West will go to the Chiefs or Chargers. The NFC South is going to the Saints. The NFC West is the Rams. That means every game against a team in the same position matters more when it comes to tiebreakers and the end of the year. So let's look at the most important games of Week 11.

Green Bay Packers (4-4-1) :moon: at Seattle Seahawks (4-5)
We get our first Week 11 basically a playoff game - that's the very scientific term I am using - matchup on Thursday. The Seahawks will get Chris Carson back when they just had Rashad Penny's best game. The Seahawks probably need this game more than the Packers. There's no chance Seattle is catching Los Angeles in the NFC West. The Packers could theoretically still catch the Bears and Vikings, but a loss here does make it more difficult.

Tennessee Titans (5-4) at Indianapolis Colts (4-5)
The Titans just had a huge win over the Patriots in Nashville. Now, they must travel to face a Colts team that has been playing well this season. The Colts absolutely need this game. If they lose, they will be out of the playoff race. If the Titans don't win, the road to the AFC South gets more difficult and their battle for a Wild-Card will be hurt - especially since they will have lost to the Colts and Dolphins.

Dallas Cowboys (4-5) at Atlanta Falcons (4-5)
Put an F on it for whichever team loses. That F could mean failure. It could be mean it's final or finished. Either way, the Cowboys will be in trouble - although they could still win the NFC East at 9-7 - if they lose to the Falcons. The Falcons will be completely done unless they figure out a way to run the table. They aren't coming back from 4-6. They aren't catching the Saints and the Panthers still have a two-game lead over Atlanta.

Cincinnati Bengals (5-4) at Baltimore Ravens (4-5)
There's a chance that Joe Flacco might not play due to a hip injury. That's not good news for the Ravens who need to make the playoffs this year or else. The Bengals are currently the sixth seed in the AFC, but they are sinking like a stone. Falling to 5-5 will open up the race for the last seed to a ton of teams.

:reporter; MNO Breaking News......Dis Jest In :coffee:

Le'Veon won't play for Steelers this year, declines to sign franchise tag :bonk:

 :coffee: ......
PITTSBURGH – For all intents and purposes, the Le’Veon Bell era in Pittsburgh appears to have ended.
In a move that will likely propel the Steelers running back into free agency in the offseason, Bell did not sign the team’s franchise tag tender on Tuesday. As a result of not signing before the league’s 4 p.m. ET deadline, Bell is not eligible to play the remainder of this season and will once again qualify for free agency in March.

The Steelers will have the option to designate Bell as their franchise player again this offseason, but the one-year salary tied to Bell’s third straight franchise tag is expected to exceed $25 million, a payout believed to be far too prohibitive for a Pittsburgh return.

A few hours before the deadline, head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters Tuesday that Bell hadn’t returned a text message or phone call from him throughout the impasse.

“I understand that business is an element of this,” Tomlin said.

Regardless of what happens next offseason, it has drawn a curtain on the Bell drama that has dragged on in Pittsburgh all season long as speculation has swirled for months about when he would rejoin the Steelers. Instead, Bell made good on a threat he made nearly 11 months ago, when he said he would consider sitting out the season if the team kept him from free agency via a second franchise tag. At the time, the threat felt hollow largely because of Bell’s 2018 payday: a one-season, fully guaranteed deal of $14.5 million.

But Bell’s commitment to carrying out his threat ultimately made it real, as he now has forfeited the entirety of that salary, along with some ancillary retirement benefits he would have collected from the league for playing this season. Barring the Steelers unexpectedly tagging him again with either the franchise or transition tag (neither of which is ideal for the team), he is expected to be one of the prize free agents next offseason. If that materializes, Bell would hit the market having just turned 27 in February of 2019.

For the moment, it closes a contentious chapter between Bell and the Steelers, who have been buoyed at the running back spot by the rise of backup James Conner. Over the length of his holdout, Bell had some details of the Steelers’ previous contract offers leaked to the media, while teammates were critical of his holdout at times. Most notably, the idea of Bell sitting out the entire season picked up intensity after Tomlin said of his possible return, “We need volunteers, not hostages.”

On Tuesday, Bell chose neither designation for 2018, removing himself from the Steelers altogether.

Do Not Cut My Leg Off /Chicago Bears Zach Miller story :happy1:

        "The Players' Tribune"

Published on Nov 14, 2018

 :coffee: ......
Last season, Chicago Bears tight end Zach Miller almost lost his leg in one of the most devastating knee injuries ever to happen on an NFL field.

Today, he's back in the gym and wants back on the field.

"Doubt me. You'll be wrong."

"All of my life I have been doubted...When I suffered this injury...do not cut my leg off. I was told I may never run again....Doubt me. You'll be wrong," he said.

Wow.

Do you have chills? Because we certainly have chills.

Though he is still very much working his way back to the NFL field, Miller still has a major voice in the Bears' organization. In fact, Miller has been on the sideline for every road game this season.

After hearing his story, Zach Miller has permanently removed the term "quit" from our vocabulary.

Great Video....

 :reporter; Vikings’ Zimmer Says!

"Patriots using Cordarrelle Patterson ‘way better than we did’"

EAGAN, Minn. -- Maybe it shouldn’t come as a surprise that New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has found a way to unlock the potential of enigmatic Cordarrelle Patterson.

 :happy1: ....
You could see it coming in mid-March, when Belichick flipped a fifth-round pick to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for Patterson. Widely regarded the best NFL coach of all time after winning five Super Bowls in New England, Belichick clearly saw something in Patterson, a first-round draft pick who had made a name as a kick returner and nothing else.

The Vikings struggled to get Patterson, a receiver from Tennessee, involved in their offense in parts of four seasons after taking him with first-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. :bonk: But the Patriots have found a way to tailor parts of their offense to his strengths. :happy1:

“Quite honestly, they’re using him way better than we did,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said. :bonk: “He’s a great athlete and a very, very strong runner. I think they use him in a number of different ways. I mean, it’s good to see for him. I wish we would have used him a little bit better.”

It’s not uncommon to see Patterson, 27, take snaps out of the backfield, line up in the slot and split out wide, sometimes in the same possession.

“He has the ability to do all of those things: to run, to catch, to have the vision and athleticism to run the ball in space, and have the size and power to be able to get a tough yard and run through tackles when he needs to do that,” Belichick said this week.

“He has good hands. He’s excellent with the ball in his hands. He really knows how to set up blocks and how to break tackles and how to gain yards. He’s extremely talented at doing that.”

With five games left in the regular season, Patterson already has set a career-high with 37 carries for 156 yards and a touchdown, as he’s being used as an actual downhill runner between the tackles rather than simply as a gadget on the outside. He also has caught 13 passes for 120 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

“We didn’t get him the ball enough maybe in a lot of those ways that they’re using him,” Zimmer said. “Honestly, since I’ve been watching him on tape, I’m going to put that in the back of my mind if we ever get a guy like this again, or a guy like that again, that we can use him in much better ways.” (Dough! -Doink!) :bonk:

The Vikings’ failure to get Patterson going has always been a little confusing. As their kick returner, he scored five touchdowns and averaged 30.4 yards a return in four seasons, but they didn’t get him the ball much as a receiver or runner.  :tut:

As a receiver, he averaged 20.6 yards a game and scored seven touchdowns in four seasons. He finished his Vikings tenure with 31 rushes, even though he averaged 10.2 yards a carry.  :doah:

Zimmer emphasized that the Vikings had Adrian Peterson during Patterson’s four seasons in Minnesota, but in two of those seasons, Peterson played a combined four games because of suspensions and injuries.

“We tinkered around with (Patterson),” Zimmer said. “I still think there we could have used him more in some of those kinds of ways.”

The fact that Patterson has been more utilized in the Patriots’ offense hasn’t taken away from him being a menace on special teams. His 30.9-yard average on kick returns is second in the NFL, and he ran for a 95-yard touchdown in Week 7.

“He’s one of the best kick returners to ever play the game,” Vikings punt returner Marcus Sherels said. “He’s electric with the ball in his hands, as we saw when he was here. Now he’s being used in a variety of positions, and when he’s out there, he’s doing a great job. We have our work cut out for us. He’s a special player.”

Clearly, that’s something Belichick realized from the jump, and now he’s reaping the rewards on his investment.

“He’s always ready to go,” Belichick said. “I know we’ve asked him to do a lot of different things and he’s been ready, willing, and able to do all of them.”
