New knife

Been looking for a new Skinner's knife.
This is what I picked out. Hope it will hold an edge when processing season starts.

buy direct from Buck.... who cares what it looks like, lifetime warranty, and holds edge best.

Nice knife HD.  I ran across my Buck Knives awhile back. Man they are nice tools.  I carry a Gerber multi-tool now so quit carrying the Buck Knives like we used to.

I have a few knifes made by Buck. They are a darn good knife.
But not for skinning 300-400 deer a year.
I'm more interested in the handle for control.
I also heard that the Damascus blade keeps a edge well.

Depends on the type of steel used, and the layering. Hopefully this one was done correctly.
Learned a lot about knives and true Damascus steel from my good buddy Terry, a master knifemaker. A true art.

for $65, that knife is a work of art.  The lines are absolutely fabulous.

Most folks don't skin deer, they just gut um (Buck knifes are great for this part) and hall them to the processor (that's when I get them)
So, depending upon the condition of the deer carcass, dictates the knife.
If they are fresh, but a little frozen, you get to pick at the hide to get a grip on it, to pull it, and requires a pointy sharp knife.
If you get a hot one, the best knife is one of them 1/4 moon knifes....and they pull like butter.
If you get one of those guys that leave um hang for a week or two....and partly froze...you almost need a serrated knife to get it separated from the hide to pull.

Both are blaze orange are about the same retail.

I have that set in the lower right hand corner, I have 2 of those orange handled ones nd a few more look familiar. and I think momma would use the one I brought home to cut jewelry!!!!!!!

I agree.  Maybe I don't know how to make best use of a gut hook 'cept for the one cut up the belly, but I can do that by guiding the point with by my finger.  My complaint was the hook would catch stuff when I was working inside the cavity.  If I had it to do over, I'd get the Elk Hunter.
