DNR fisheries crews stocked the Vermillion River in Farmington with more than 3,500 rainbow trout earlier this week in preparation for the stream trout opener on Saturday, April 17.

The half-pound rainbows came from the DNR hatchery in Lanesboro. Additional stockings are planned for later this spring as part of ongoing efforts to provide quality, close-to-home angling opportunities for Twin Cities metro residents.

Rainbow trout can be harvested from the Vermillion, but brown trout must be immediately released. Don’t forget your angling license and your trout stamp! Learn more about trout fishing in Minnesota at mndnr.gov/fishing/trout/index.html
