I remember that last name from some early In-Fisherman articles/shows, they were usually talking about ML there too.

 Steve Fellegy was  a member on a different outdoor site "LSF" not Joe years ago and headed up the native netting B.S long ago,Steve fought hard against the netting as the brothers both guided on mille lacs for 30 years together on mille lacs. They had  love passion for the big lake.

Steve actually setup his arrest fishing walleyes off his dock early one spring,he called channel 9 news and the DNR claiming his right to fish walleyes before our traditional opener,then he was ticketed which was his game plan for his court apperance.

I and many other folks attended Steve's court apperance fighting for our non-native rights only to get shot down by a pos lib judge,this fiasco took a toll on Steve's health last I chatted with him,heart issues.Steve had issues with local natives harrassing him/family to the point he moved to town from his lake place near myr mar on mille lacs.

Steve showed me video's out front of his lake home one year of natives pulling netts one morning,we counted over 60 spawning walleyes boated in a matter of minutes,we watched the natives slip huge pike or muskies back in the water as they continued to harvest walleyes,Steve told me these incedental fish were dead and they would count against the tribes allowment,each trib (all 8) mostly from wisc could harvest certain number of each species of fish depending on how many tribal members,so if a tribe was allowed 1500 lbs of walleye and 500lbs of pike/muskie once the tribe kept the 500lbs of pike they were done netting regardless how many walleyes they took so most often the natives dumped these incedental fish,Steve said these dead fish would sink in cold water,then weeks later when the water warmed these dead rotting fish would float up and cover the north end of mille lacs shoreline from the warm southern winds,total B.S. shete show which has lead to our strict non-native walleyes regs we see today,sadly these regulations has ruined the tourist business on and around mille lacs,so much so most mom n pops businesses are gone except for the casino....

Steve finally gave up his fight,Joe never entered the ring,stayed silent as he was a regular writer for outdoor news,haven't herd from either one in years,not sure if either one is still above ground these days?

Joe would always write many articles in the Outdoor news about the netting and how screwed up it was. Seemed to really taper off the last 6-7 years though.

Far as I know both are still above ground. Steve does most of his guiding on Leech Lake last I heard. Steve has also become active on Facebook again.

Joe still has stuff published in the Mille Lacs Messenger from time to time.
