It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a...helicopter dropping fish?

Yup, believe your eyes. In some of Minnesota’s more remote areas of the state, the DNR will stock fish by dropping them from helicopters. Fishing in Minnesota is not only renowned nationally, but here at home it supports 28,000 jobs and $3 billion in annual economic impact. Fish stocking is typically conducted by vehicles, but in some situations, it makes more sense for us to use aircraft to save on time, labor, and cost. Due to airspace restrictions, we also occasionally partner with the U.S. Forest Service to stock trout in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness via low-flying plane. Based on lake surveys and angler reports, fish survival from the drops is very good! Pictured here is a past operation of our DNR Enforcement helicopter dropping trout near Grand Marais.

I s'pose the beating those fish take in the current constantly and in the waterfalls and riffles when spawning, what's a little helicopter ride capped off by a 20 foot swan dive?
