Any of you guys that have septic systems use these blanket to prevent freeze ups? I usually use straw, but itís a mess to clean up in the spring. The blankets Iím thinking about buying are the Mattís sewer blankets.

I've never used one, I'm cheap.....When it gets close to the season, I let the grass grow long and leave it. If the drought hits and don't grow the grass, I use hay (but not to often)

Honestly, I've never heard of these.....sorry, I'm no help  :newhere:

Yesterday I put down (4) 6' x 20' of those Matts sewer blankets. Do they work? I sure hope so! I know as much about them as you do.

I have never covered our drain field with anything. Maybe some day I will get bit in the hinder. But 15 years and no problems yet.

We've had issues with ours, so we use 1. That year we had an extended period of ~ -40 & very little snow. According to the plumber we weren't the only ones with the problem that season. We also started putting some 4 x 8 sheets of the pink fiberglass insulation under the blanket last year. We have a lift station in the basement & another outside to pump it to our drain field. At what was ~ $200 a service call we decided to take some extra caution ourselves. We don't have a mound either.

Could be. Also helps that the snow drifts over the drain field.

We have a gravity system so no pumps involved. The tank is dug into a south facing slope so it has good fall going into the drain field. We have a flower garden planted over the top of our tank & leave the residue from that to catch snow. It also breaks the wind so it doesn't freeze as deep there. It's the first area the frost goes out in the spring.

Same here. Flower garden over the tank. Catches snow well.
