Lets talk Every Day Carry pocket knife's

I have never been one to carry a pocket knife much. I'm thinking of changing that, and have no idea of what I should think about getting. There seems to be a ton of different options and I have no idea what a good choice is. Lets hear what all of those of you who carry a pocket knife carry, and what you like or dislike about them.

I wouldn't know where to start either.  There are soo many good options for pocket/pouch knives.  It think I'd pick one that was easily replaceable and/or I didn't care so much if I lost it.  (I lost a small pen knife my dad gave me and wish I still had it.)

However, I find myself wishing I had a tape measure on me more often that wishing I had a knife.

My around the farm knife is a 3-blade seed company giveaway knife I've had forever. It's an Imperial made in Ireland so not a total piece of crap but close. Cuts bale twines, digs crap out of sheep hooves & cleans fouled plugs occasionally. I have drawers with lots of other cheap-@$$ knives so no biggie if it bites the dust. The knife I carry at work (a good agronomist always carries a pocket knife) is this Swiss Army knife. Had it ~ 10 years. 2 blades, a can opener, a bottle opener with two sizes of flat blade screwdrivers on those, a toothpick & a tweezers. It has split hundreds of cornstalks & soybean stalks yet remains very sharp. Very functional. I like the size as it fits flat in my pocket.

I don't think any type of a Multi Tool is anything I need. I don't work in a job where anything like that is needed and I rarely wear a belt to attach one to. Those multi tools are real handy for those who work a place that they are needed. I know several farming buddies and they never go anyplace with one attached to their belt.

The knife pictured is a pocket knife. Got a loop on it but hanging on a belt & walking through cornfields you'd tear it off so fast, it wouldn't last 5 minutes. It's never on my belt or in a pouch. It's ~ 3" long & 1/2" thick. Rides in my pocket anytime I'm not dressed in my farmer duds, not just at work. Buy whatever you like but it's amazing how many times some of that additional stuff comes in handy.

Ahhh now is is a great topic! I'm a knife enthusiast and really wouldn't care to count how many I actually own. At any given time I have 1-3 knives on me because you never know when you'll need a knife! I've always been happy with Gerber, Buck, and Old Timers. Good value, easy open/close on many of their styles, and decent blades. More recently I've gotten a few Kershaw knifes. A little more spendy, but very nice knives! There really isn't a brand of knives I don't like. My everyday carry knife changes from day to day depending on my attire and pocket availability.

One of my basic life rules - never go anywhere without chapstick and a knife.

I have several, my last purchase that I really like and its cheap enough to loose was a Civivi. I have a kershah that is ok and a CRKT that is really nice but they were more expensive.

 I have the very same Swiss Army knife as Dotch has pictured that hangs on a lanyard & loops over 1 of the windshield fastners, next to the landing net, of our Crestliner side console. I don't usually carry a pocket knife but if I'm in the house there's normally 1 on my dresser & on the end table in front of the TV.

I used to carry a folding Buck knife....now, I just carry my old folding Craftsman box cutter. I can change the blade wherever it gets dull.

I already said I don't carry one every day, but the time I always DO stick one in my pocket is Christmas Eve/Christmas Day - when somebody ALWAYS needs a knife.

Pro tip for parents and grandparents:  All those impenetrable, plasti-shielded toys you buy for your kids and grandkids... while they are still young enough, you can cut away all that plastic crap and twist ties BEFORE you wrap the gifts.  That way you can get right to the egg nog while the kiddies are busy opening their stuff.

The very last thing my mom gave me before she had her bad stroke is a pocket knife with my name on it. Not the greatest steel but it holds an edge pretty well. It makes me think of her so it's my favorite.

Looking at a few reviews online, One of the features I think I'd like is a kicker / Flipper opening assist. I don't have anything against the Thumb Stud or Thumb slot, but the kicker / Flipper looks like it would make opening it one handed really easy.
One other thing, In Minnesota what is the law in regards to automatic opening or assisted opening knife's. I do understand there is a difference between automatically opening and Assisted opening knife's.

I have played with a few of the assisted opening ones and some are ok and other were hard to get used to. I feel confident with all of my carry knives I can open one handed by using the thumb tab.

These are legal, but I'd cut my fingers off the first time I used it.

      For me, it depends on the situation.
      If I'm out and about, I carry a Boy Scout knife (about 50 years old) in my pocket. On my belt, I carry a Leatherman Wave+. I have 3 of them.
      If I'm here on the homestead, I loose the Leatherman and wear a tool pouch on my belt. The pouch holds a 6-in-1 screwdriver, pliers, mini-mag sized flashlight, a small standard screwdriver with a magnet on one end and a big pencil. My farm knife clips to my pocket. The Boy Scout knife is always in my pocket.

Since I started to use and wear a multi tool I will never go back.  I went to buy my first one and the guy said get a Gerber.  Why?  Because I can grab it and open it with one swift movement.  Can take hooks out or any other thing whilst you are already holding something and need a pliers.  The knives on them are surprisingly sharp too.  I am always handing it to someone that needs it at the time.  I don't wear it to Dr. or going out to eat or anything like that but everyday I always have it on me.  Lifesaver at times. I also see it as a weapon of sorts if I ever need something and have nothing else on me.

Right now the few I'm considering are the: Kershaw Cryo, The SOG Twitch II, The steel Will Cutjack, and the Civivi Praxis. I'd love to have the SOG Terminus XR LTE but that one is way past my $ budget

knives......oh my.....my wife things i have a fetish!!!!!! i carry 2.....both cheapos but no bog deal if i loose them....and havent in a while. had a rather good, kinda spendy and lost it........like Sharon i have a full drawer full,,,,,,,,,then all my hunting and fishing knives!!!!!
