I decided to leave T-Mobile after having multiple problems with them. #1problem being no service where their service map says I have service! I had a piece of equipment that they gave me so their service would work in my house. (no other provider has service issues in my house) They sent me a bill for that piece of equipment. I brought that bill and the equipment into the store and gave it to them. A little later I got a bill for the equipment saying if I don’t return it I have to pay for it. I called and was told that they can’t help since I don’t have an account with them. Went to the store and was told the same thing. Told my frustration to a co worker who showed me this AI program she used to do all her school papers. I told it my problem and it wrote up a letter that I sent to T-Mobile along with the bill they sent me. I received a paperwork back saying my balance is $0. The next day I received a letter from a collection agency for $312.48 (the cost of the device). I called the collection company and the only thing they can do is collect the money.
What do I do?

The letter that the IA program wrote:
I am writing to address a serious matter concerning my recent billing statement with your company. I have been wrongfully charged $312.48 for equipment that your records indicate I never returned. However, I have clear evidence, in the form of a photograph, proving that I returned the equipment in question. This discrepancy has caused undue stress and inconvenience on my part.
Enclosed with this letter is a copy of the photograph, clearly showing the returned equipment and the date it was returned. I kindly request that you review your records promptly and rectify this billing error by removing the $312.48 charge from my account. I believe this is a simple misunderstanding that can be resolved amicably and promptly.
If the erroneous charge is not rectified within [a reasonable timeframe, e.g., 14 days] from the date of this letter, I will have no choice but to explore all available legal avenues to protect my rights as a consumer. This may include filing a complaint with the relevant regulatory authorities, pursuing legal action, and seeking damages for any associated costs, such as legal fees and time spent resolving this matter.
I would prefer to resolve this issue amicably and avoid any unnecessary legal actions. Therefore, I urge you to investigate this matter thoroughly and provide a written response outlining the actions you will take to rectify the situation. If you require any additional information or documentation, please do not hesitate to contact me at [your phone number] or [your email address].
I trust that you will handle this matter promptly and in good faith. I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to a swift resolution.
Sincerely,

Looks like you have it covered.  I had an issue like this with a credit card company.  They said I didn't return the card reader.  No big deal till I went to get a loan and it was on my credit report that I owed them.  I contacted Tina Smith and she took care of it pronto.  The company was in Chicago so she got their AG involved too.  Only took a couple of weeks.

We've had to used the AG approach a couple times before too, the ombudsman, & the BBB work as well.

I had an issue years ago with At&t. They charged me for a new phone that I didn't order. The lady kept telling me I had to pay it. It was close to $400 and I said I was not going to pay for something I didn't order or get. She told how it was going to effect my credit. I laughed at her and this 1 little piss ant company isn't going to change my credit score. She must have realized I was serious. Then she said I need to report it to there fraud department. They then told me how to take care of it. From there I had to contact my local police and they were able to investigate. Short story was the phone number was only 1 digit off from mine and they had a typo. That got most of it straightened out. Except for the sales tax. They told me I had to get that back from the state. I said no you get it. That stayed on our bill for about 4 months and I just kept writing on the statement disputing it. Finally called again and got a guy on the phone that new what he was doing. He said they should have never told me that. Took care of it write there. Moral of the story, just keep pushing back on them. Eventually it will get straightened out.

We had T-Mobile for a few years, and they kept trying to up our bill for services we didn't request. Plus, I had to stand on my head, holding a lightning rod while on the front porch to get reception. We dumped them for Verizon and never had a problem since.

I hope you get it fixed without getting screwed!

My kid gas AT&T And gets reception anywhere at the cabin  so I switched to them. Couldn't be  more satisfied  so far. I can torment you guys from the cabin kitchen table  :sleazy: :coffee: couldn't  do it with Verizon.

I've had t mobile for probably 15 plus years.   Never changed our policy and we are only paying 200 dollars for 7 phones with unlimited everything.   If we change anything they are allowed to make changes to  the contract.     I have great signal at my house and anywhere in the metro.  Not going to change anytime soon.   I don't get great signal at the cabin or Deadeye cabin but for the price for my plan I'm not going to change.   If I could get the same price locked in and not just in introductory price I would change.
Anything that is free is worth saving up for.

I see on IDO reef mentioned dropping off equipment at stores vs authorized retailers, makes sense. As far as reception goes with different providers go I think it all depends on what part of the state your standing on. We were blessed with a Verizon pole on the other side of the lake, so it's a no brainer.  Out west in the mountains,  hit or miss.
