Anyone heard of a gun barrel going bad?? My brother used to work at a gun range and thinks my issues last fall could be a gun barrel gone bad. :doah: :surrender: :confused:

found this;

How long do gun barrels last?
A barrel's life expectancy is caliber dependant, and may range anywhere from 1000 rounds to 6000 rounds or more. While barrel life many not be financially concerning for many shooters around the world, it is still good to understand roughly how long your barrel may last until precision starts to decline.

Two ways, like Mike posted the riflings can be "shot out" of the barrel after a billion rounds. You backed over your gun and bent the barrel.
Ones hardly unlikely and the other depends on how much you drink at Deer camp!  :doofus:

Leech... I don't drive over my guns! :happy1: :rotflmao: and don't drink in excess at deer camp.

I doubt there's millions of rounds shot through it.

I would be looking at loose scope or bad scope first.

Then you for sure would know if it patterns. Like jb said a loose scope might be a good place to check if your rifle doesn't shoot an acceptable pattern.

I don't kno how bad the misses were, and i ain't askin', but...

the other variable might be that you were shootin new ammo that you hadn't patterned and maybe y'er rifle don't like it so much.

Seems like something must have changed after you did your pre-season target shooting. Highly doubt that the barrel went bad.

All I can say is....it could happen....

True story....

When I bought my property, the previous owner left behind a .22 Marlin. I shot it several times, even clamping it into a lead sled to try to get it to pattern. Granted, I didn't know the history of this gun, but it would not hold a pattern. I ended up buying a new barrel of off eBay, and now it's deadly accurate. Looking down the old barrel, the rifling looks great & not pitted, so I'm not sure if it's bent or not. It just doesn't shoot straight with that barrel.

Would a lazer site at close proximity to a graph target show anything?

Another thing that is possible is that the bore got leaded up but I doubt it. It must be Biden's fault since everything else is.

3 years ago, my son had mounted a new scope, and the scope was bad. No matter what we did, it would not pattern. IT ended up the scope reticles were moving around in the tube, so the point of aim vs point of impact varied by anywhere from a couple of inches to totally missing a deer at 70 yards.

Check the scope. Being new means nothing.
