I've been piecing this together for a while now. This is what it looks like before I glue it together. What do you think?

Looks great. I can hear the beer opening as you kick back for a well deserved celebratory toast.
I used to be cute and adorable. Then, I had my first birthday. Been downhill ever since.

yeah, they recommend some landscaping glue for retaining walls to adhere the blocks together to keep them in place...not sure how well that crap would work cause I never used it before.

May have to take a brick out on each side to get draft.  Like Glenn said.

Are there holes in the metal liner? My "fire pit" is just a piece of 48" round, 1/4' thick stainless steel pipe about 18' high.

Looks good HD.  With the metal insert you might need to add a vent tube or two so it gets a bit of draft.  It would be a lot less smokey fire that way.

Like glenn said venting helps a lot.
The two things I hate about state park or state forest campground fire rings, is for safety their to deep and not vented well.  We have a lot of fires at home and our camper, I like to watch the fire flames, not a glow at the top of a big deep can that just smoldering!

I wanted a stainless steel one but couldn't find one at 48"
Yeah, there's no holes in it.
I haven't "glued" it together yet that's why I kinda wanted to get you guys opinions first.

Having a brick out of the east and west side is said to be a symbolic thing as to the sunrise and set so helps the fire breath.  ???  Leech you are so right about those park fire pits.  They are nice and heavy duty but yes they almost smother the fire with no draft holes.  AND yes that is one nice looking pit HD.  Good job.

My fire pit is actually some duct work salvaged from a run that was torn out from an ethanol plant I used to work. About a dozen of us got little pieces like that.

That's exactly where it's go'in JB...
So, if I drill 4 holes (North, South, East and West) 1 1/2" in diameter, do you think that would be good?
