Yes, it's a dove.  More specifically a Eurasian Collared Dove.  Significantly larger than a Mourning Dove.  I hadn't seen them around these parts before, but I guess they are gradually migrating North and West.

Thanks for posting that dove pic JoeF. Will have to look more closely at the numerous doves under the feeders now. Gawking at them should drive the wife absolutely nuts.

Wowsirs! No one feeding the birds anymore? Anyone have any unusuals this winter? We've had pine siskins and common redpolls. It's been a long time since they've been here, probably not since some of the butt kicking winters like 1991. Cold weather must be on the way again. They pulled pretty hard on the feeders today.

I finally got a couple of bad pictures of the big woodpecker.  I will be putting my trail cam out by the suit tommorrow.  I think it is a palated woodpecker.

all i get is sparrows... i would take some pics but the wife
dropped my very very pricey digital camera on the floor and
it doesnt work anymore... daddy is not happy...

I was sitting on the porch smok'in a cigar........

I looked up and saw 4 Robins sitting in a Boxelder tree!

I tried to take a pic with the cell phone, but you can't see the birds that well.

I thought those little buggers migrated South? Don't they? Should they?

Momma quit searching years ago....
I have not seen any robins in the winter, but i hear its
not that rare that they hang around.

I finally got a picture of the pileated woodpecker with my trail cam. It took more than a week after putting up the camera. After getting the picture I took the camera down because he would not come to the feeder with the camera 5 feet from the feeder.

Suit. We butchered a cow in december and I hung this big hunk of fat from the inside of the cow.

It started out about 4 times the size.  I was getting about 150-200 pictures on the trail cam per day.  The birds were really hitting it pretty hard when it was below zero.

Been a good winter thus far for watching the birds at the ranch. There's been a pileated woodpecker that the wife thinks is actually her recently deceased Dad reincarnated visiting us. I haven't had the heart to tell her if that's the case, her Dad is playing for the other team because this one is a female. We've had a male cardinal though, something we've been trying to attract for years and we finally did it. Maybe that's her Dad and the woodpecker is her Mom!

I been forgetting to fill the feeder, Whats really strange is I have a lot of robins still here... I thought
they went south for the winter.

There was an interesting article by Stan Tekiela on the overwintering robins in the last Outdoor Snooze. One of the things they said and it made sense was that many of what stay around are males. That way they get the jump on the migrating males for the prime nesting areas which in turn helps them attract the best females. Think I'd still rather overwinter in AZ after this stuff.

Yeah, we've got pileated woodpeckers around our suet feeder... cool birds.  Ive seen more robins this winter than I can remember... Its gotta be some kind of a sign... like the vikes will finally win the superbowl!

I walked past our patio door this afternoon and lo and behold there was a big ol rooster pheasant under my feeder about 5 yards away.  We saw each other at about the same time and he flew away.  I wish I would have seen him before he saw me so I could have gotten a picture.  I've had mallards before but this is the first pheasant.  I live in town by the way.
