lures/baits for muskie?

sense i have never fished for muskies and plan to this summer i need some bait/lure ideas. i fish pike all summer long and i catch them on live bait (suckers minnows and fathead minnows when i fishing for walleye. and i also use an variety of rapalas and daredevils, i use perch colored daredevils the most, but i also use really shiny daredevils also most of them are on the smaller side. but i was wondering if anybody has any ideas for me..thanks

Go up to Thorne Bros. Talk to Pat if he is in. They have the ultimate selection up there. Even build your own components like bucktails which you should not be without if you chase waterwolves. Watch out though they got some in there that you can order for about $250.00 for one lure. It will really help you out. If not just start with a Mepps giant killer or the like and you will be surprised at the northerns and big ole bass you will find as a bonus. Add a topwater bait as well. Don't go broke.

  Like Ken said don't go broke buying stuff, it can run into some cash if you don't wach what your doing. I got 3 tackel boxes of junk that I have bought, that I didn't need to. When I get a chance, I'll take some pics of my favorite lures that work for me. I'll post them on here for ya buddy!

thanks ken i forgot to ad on there i do have a whole assortment of mepps and bucktails. i was looking at stuff at cabelas and gander the other day and couldnt beleive how much they were, im interested in fishing for them but i aint to interested in going broke, im almost positive that i can use the rod i use for northerns 6'6 ugly stick on muskies without to much of a problem. thanks hunter no hurry on that though theres still like 3 months to go before i can fish for them so when ever you get time. it was nice to meet you on saturday. maybe we could go out after a muskie or 2 this summer.

I think alot of these new baits are made more to catch the fiserman more than they are the fish. If you like to pike fish also i would recomend at least one Suick 9" or a Wades wobbler,(if you can find one), I make most of my bucktails myself, but there are some resonably priced  ones out there. The Rapala mag 18 is a good and fair priced lure. When you realy think about it, how much do you spend on bait in a day of Walleye fishing? One lure may cost you $15 but you will have it for years. Lure buying is a addiction!!!!

well i usually use live bait when i dont feel like doing much but relaxing. but if im there and determined to catch a big fish for walleyes i favor the wally diver i have 4 different clolors and sizes. and i know what you mean lure buying is an addiction especially if there on sale i still walk out with atleast 50 dollars in lures hooks slipbobbers slip no snag sinkers etc. but everything i have i use it. thanks for the info

Here ya go, these are a few of my fav's

The ones on the left, I have caught more muskie's than I can count. (course, I only made it past 2nd grade)     

But, truefully, the ones on the left have been more productive for me.
The giant beetle spin has worked very well for "searching" for fish, in different shades (white, yellow, black)

Depends on how much beer is in the boat.......

But, really, it's just like bass fish'in just with bigger stuff and bigger fish!

lol well thats how i like to fish for northerns with buddys just throwing out a sucker minnow and wait. lol i have a lake around here were i catch bass in the 6 to 7 lb range almost all day.

they say it does and they say the stocking it little by little but ive never seen them taken out of there, they also have HUGE northerns, there isnt to many crappies sunfish,perch and forage for them so they eat each other and the bass. theres also small numbers of walleye that have been caught its a completly catch and release lake. except panfish, and dogfish everything else has to go back.

 It sounds like a good lake to catch and release a trophy.

i do all my fishing from the docks on most lakes around here, (its the best way to do it around here) i have a small boat, but there was a acciedent when i lent it to a buddy last year so now i am fixing my motor/possibly buying a new one. but yeah some fish i catch have 2-3 leaders already in there mouth on that lake.
