Just wondering what everyone saw who was out this past week and a half during firearms deer season so far...

Did you see many deer moving in your area?

How much crop was still standing in the fields in your area?

Did you see about the same amount, more or less deer than an average season?

We had several hundred acres of corn stil in the field opening weekend all around our woods. By Wed/Thurs most of the corn on the east side was out but all still remained to the south and west.

We did not see nearly as many deer moving through the woods as an average season. From opener on Sat Nov 7 through 11am on Sat Nov 14 we had only seen a uni-buck, 4-5 does/fawns along with the button buck and 15 pt non typical we harvested.

This was by far the leanest year for deer sighting in 15-16 years in our woods. The warmer temps and standing crops in the fields really made a difference for our hunt this year.

most of the corn is down in our area. but we seeing alot of little deer. some decent bucks. but i havent seen anything really at all lately. so far im the only one on the land thats shot a deer. i have 3 so far, #4 hopefully in the morning. one guy missed a good buck because he lost a screw on his scope after he sighted it in and didnt notice then noticed and replaced it but never re shot it until he shot at a deer and missed badly. the other guy passed up on alot of small deer and a decent sized 8 pointer that i have seen and he has alot of potential in a year or 2. and the other guy hasnt even seen a deer yet. on a normal year there would be atleast 4 deer hanging.

Have seen plenty of deer, most of my corn was down mid season.
I have one more small field to pick.
12 different bucks total, (that I saw) anywhere from a really promising 10, down to forks.
My daughter got buck fever and missed a chance at a nice buck.   :bonk:
The child I mentored for this season, harvested a decent doe.  :happy1:
I harvested 2 does with the bow (one with the compound and one with the recurve)
And 3 more does and a "cull" buck with the rifle (one of them was on a party bonus doe tag) We are in an intensive harvest area, so, all of our party got something to take home.

Now, it's time to harvest some pheasants!

The Jim Moline Gang saw 11 deer out of six of us hunting the first week of the season (by URL).  It was very windy and raining nearly every day.  Out of the 11 deer we saw, three shots were fired at three different deer.  Two of the three were hit and harvested.  The third was a clean misss.  We left the cabin early and headed back home because it was pooring rain on Friday and more rain predicted for Saturday.  There is not any crops around were we hunt (way back in the sticks).  The deer live on browsing around.  The bucks were not chasing Does in our area.  We did see some active scrapes.  I believe the rut was not in full swing yet.  We have others hunting this weekend thru tomorrow.  We also have 2-3 guys planning on hunting the third weekend as well.  Overall, it was a little slower.  It had more to do with the crappy weather then anything else.

Jakergreen (my eldest) and I will be hunting in SD until the of the year.

We just wraped up the 9 day season.  We saw way more deer than last year.  Today 4 of us saw 11 deer and shot one doe.  Many deer still left in the woods.

I think It was a lot slower then last year. Not so much as the corn was sill standing like last year.I think it had to do with the warm temp and in october it rain most of. So the water in the swamps. Most of the deer were coming out of the swamps. I also think that the people that past up the smaller one on the opener end up not to see then after the first weekend once the deer got spoke.as the last weekend came the deer were not coming out of the swamps in tell night fall.

Sitting with my cousin, and occasionally bowhunting during gun opener I saw three deer. There is a buttload of corn still up, and all the deer we saw were coming from corn field edges, or mingling in thickets near the river. I will be hunting second season through muzzle season.

It is reported that just over 20% of the corn is out in our area. Not sure of the accuracy of that report, but seeing firsthand zero combines in the field this weekend I kind of believe it.

No corn in our area, but did not see many deer in my opinion.  I believe we saw the same two to three does a number of times and two small bucks.  I wish something happens in this state that allows for more bucks to grow.  I have spent probably 30 - 40 nights or mornings in my stands since opening of bow season and have yet to see anything bigger than a small 6 pointer.  Very discouraging when you think of the amount of time and money spent.

I passed a spike on opener saw 20 doe and fawns after that (could hve been the same ones a couple times) and of course had no doe tag. All in all another disapointing year thus far for me. Hope to take a deer late with the bow but never had much luck after the gun season. Sure wont be passing on anything anymore though to much time invested to have nothing in the freezer.
