Ely Area Fishing (2nd week of August)

The warm weather and water temps seems to have scattered fish throughout the water column.
Many Bass are being taken in shallow water (3-10 ft) using leeches and crawlers on a plain hook, with some being taken in as much as 22 FOW.
Crappies have been hard to come by, but Sunnies and Blue Gills are plentiful if you fish the edges of weed or wild rice beds with small jigs, tipped with a small piece of a worm or a waxie.
Walleye success has been best when fishing in the mornings (7-11am) in 10-22 FOW on reefs or wind swept points, where the water will drop to even deeper depths.  Leeches and crawlers have been working, as have jigs tipped with a small minnow. Some reports of larger Walleyes come from Snowbank Lake fishing at 20 feet, where they are suspended over 65 FOW.
Small Pike are being caught near shorelines, with very few large ones reported.
Surface temperatures of lakes are approximately 75-76 degrees,  71-73 degrees in 20 FOW.

I don't think you need to be here, Lee.  As I stand on my deck overlooking Burntside Lake, I'm thinking that Lee needs to be driving a taxi in Chicago instead of fishing.
