Draft forestry management plan for southeastern Minnesota available for public review
(Released September 3, 2010)

A draft forestry management plan for a special management area in southeastern Minnesota has been released for public review, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

The draft management plan, which covers the Money Creek Bluff High Biodiversity Area, is an addendum to the Blufflands/Rochester Plateau Subsection Forest Resources Management Plan that was completed in May 2002.

The draft plan was developed by a local interdisciplinary DNR team and is available for public comment through Oct. 1. Interested individuals can request paper copies by contacting the DNR at 651-259-5278.

“The Money Creek Bluff Plan will guide management decisions and practices in a project area consisting of 1,307 acres, approximately two-thirds of which is administered by the DNR,” said Jon Nelson, DNR forest planning and policy supervisor.

The area covered by the plan was among 13 management areas set aside during the Subsection Forest Resources Management Plan process. In these areas, special management plans can be developed to ensure the ongoing survival and spread of native plant communities. Native plant communities support the rare flora and fauna that make the areas unique.
