Sounds like at 9 or 10 tonight we are going to get dumped on.  There is not enough ice down yet.   Could be another long winter.   I was checking ice one night when it was 10 below zero.  Kicked 8 inches of snow away and there was water on top of the ice.  This could be a deal breaker.  Looks like everything from the cities north is going to get hit.   :censored: :censored: :censored:

I'm not much of an ice fishermen these days but all I have to say is stay positive! People are fishing now so I don't think that will change in a couple weeks. Find the good in things take your kids sledding!  :happy1: Make a snowman and then go ice fishing!  :happy1:

Does anyone worry about the venison herd? This is alot of snow to pile up this early. Better buy up them bonus tags and use them to save 20 deer next spring for each one you harvest now.

I was out tonight and saw six inches of ice with snow on top. I have a feeling this is going to hurt the ice building process but it's not a deal breaker for the entire winter. The ice is still going to form and we will see more as winter progresses. You probably aren't going to be driving on it for a while though.

I was in Mora Pheasent hunting today so i stoped by the lake I stay at there and there were 7 houses and 2 4 wheelers in the middle of the lake..I walked out about 75 feet and the ice was solid maybe 3 inches of snow on it..So I have to agree with Hunter and Sandman were gonna be ok just wont be driving on it with our trucks but isent that why we all have sleds and wheelers or heaven forbid our feet....good luck and be safe

hope the snow comes! 6 inches of ice and lots of snow means no lazy fishermen driving trucks out for awhile! More fish for me!

My lake of no fish is really late  to freeze over.  The last 2 years in a row it was unfishable most of the winter.  It is the slush thats the problem.  Plus you drill a hole and water comes up from and floods you out.  The smaller metro lakes will probably be ok.

Not worried about it here. We already had a good 9-10 inches of ice with about 4 inches of fluff on top. I would say we didn't get much more than an inch out of this last storm. Supposed to be -14 tonight, maybe high of 0 tomorrow, and -18 tomorrow night. Should be plenty of ice by Monday. :happy1:

We lucked out here in the central part of the state. Minnewaska had a good solid 10" and we only got a few inches of snow. With these below zero temps she's still makin good ice here!

Yeah, its all relative.... so ya pull your portable out, or use the atv.... just as long as I can get the ultra-shack out while its still walleye season, and then the poutfest :happy1:.... that takes all precident.... Kens right.... I think about the critters trying to find food when its like this....the deer in our neighborhood are literally walking the streets because the snow is too deep, and are declaring war on bird feeders! :doah:
