11-23-10  Well, the neighbor just pulled out the boat yesterday, so ice can't be to far behind!  Small floes are floating around this morning, with shoreline ice forming...the countdown begins!  The panfish bite up until yesterday has been deep and schooled up..nice steady bite with great size on the crappies...New ice tackle due first week of December, get your Christmas shopping done locally, and support a small business in this wonderful economy!

Hey rushpointstore, I stop in there all the time! I am wondering with all the break-ins into vehicles at the landing up the road if that might be hurting your business. I wonder if it would do any good for you to bring this up to the chamber of commerce and put some pressure on local law enforcement to patrol the landing more frequently so more of us feel comfortable leaving our vehicles at the landing and patronizing your store on the way rather than avoiding that access altogther. Just a thought. Cheers!

Hey!  thanks for the question..the reply did not go through the other night for some reason..anyway...There is no Chamber out here..so that is kind of out!  We have a township board, the lake association, and the sheriff.  With budgets like they are for the county, they run our deputies pretty lean..they do what they can on patrolling..but I don't know how often they can get up here to the access.  We love the local deputies, they live, work and play up here, and I know they try.  On the other hand, DNR has control of the access, and they informed us if they heard more complaining about the condition, etc,. they would just close the access and be done with it, nice.  Township will not take the liability of sanding it even..no entity wants the liablility if someone gets hurt down there.  Last winter there was a 'unofficial' few, who sanded it, and did some 'sittin' down there to keep an eye on things.  Seems when the word went out on a truck that was suspected of pilfering..it was tracked down by a 'neighborhood watch'..same for a fish house that was found to have a lot of stolen property..but of course, that is just rumor!

Did the ice stay?

I was out on Friday afternoon, and when I went by the access the lake was still open in the middle. I didn't go by today, so hopefully it'll keep freezing.

There were quite a few folks up on the North end tip-up fish'in on Friday. I poked some holes as I walked out. It varied from 2-4 inches. With this warm (warmer) spell, I will wait.....

Yep, some of us "unoffical" folks will be around this winter.  ;)

watching a couple guys drill their way out to Grass Island area stopping about every 50" to drill and measure....they kept going, so must feel somewhat secure!  Two fishermen in the store said they have found consistent 4-5"...be careful whatever you do!..
