Hearing Protection Act Picks Up Over 100 Co-Sponsors in House

The bill we’ve been keeping our eyes on, which would remove suppressors from National Firearm Act regulations, is (ironically) making a lot of noise on Capitol Hill.

The Hearing Protection Act, introduced as H.R. 367, has now picked up over 100 co-sponsors with the goal being to deregulate suppressors as a safety measure to help promote their use in hearing protection.

“Reaching 100 cosponsors in the House clearly shows that the HPA has a tremendous amount of support, but there is still a lot of work to be done to get it to the President’s desk,” said Knox Williams, President and Executive Director of the American Suppressor Association.

“We are working very hard with Representatives Duncan and Carter, and Senator Crapo to turn this legislation into law as quickly as possible; however, it’s going to take time. As we continue our push to move this bill through the legislative process, we commend the 109 legislators in the House and Senate who have signed on in support of this common sense legislation to make the recreational shooting and hunting experiences safer for generations to come.”

The Hearing Protection Act will dramatically change the treatment of suppressors. The measure will make it easier for hunters and sportsmen to better protect their hearing, foregoing the strenuous requirements of the NFA, and instead require buyers to pass an NICS check. The same instantaneous background check you must pass during the sale of long guns.

Here is the list of Co-Sponsors found on Congress.gov:

I can tell ya the other side of the coin...and I'm sure yer aware I love my guns. When I was qualifying Last Saturday at the range , we were all standing there, loading clips, and all of a sudden, *FWINGFWING*FWINGFWING* dirt chunks raining down on us. Those of us who have been thru this type of stuff before hit the dirt, while some hid behind the shooting tables, like deer in the headlights. There is a high (ten ft) berm dirt wall bewteen the stations, and some idjit was trigger pumping what looked like a 7.62 AR with a can on it (silencer). You get good muzzle rise doing this, and he wasn't aware we were on the other side...or how far those rounds carry thru the air. (miles) The instructor and range officer ran over there and grabbed the idiot, a member, and booted his azz off the property. He's no longer a member. One of the other guys next to me had to be held back from pounding the guys head in. The point? With a can, you cannot tell WHERE the rounds are coming from, which, of course, can be deadly. I don't believe in allowing them on guns...and I won't say "sorry". Too many idjits like that, that came close to killing some of us. If I could of, I would of joined the guy in kicking his azz all across the range.

Yup, I myself am not a fan of this.
I feel that you are going to have more "hits" on people (gang related crap) that will go unpunished because of the silence.
Can you imagine the poachers, stand point? You'd never catch um...only way to "maybe" catch um is the muzzle flash.

If ya care about yur ears, wear some plugs or muffs....

And you can get a can with a flash suppressor.....that's a hit waiting to happen. Some things are just NOT made for the public, believe it or not.

The only redeeming quality, if there is one, is that to own a can, you have to have, for EACH and EVERY one: a class I background check, pay $200, and get a federal stamp, all from the ATF bureau..... for EACH and every one.

These have been around for years...and they work well!  (shhhh...)
