This year Amazon decided to raise the annual fee for all its prime members.  I don’t watch their prime videos, or read ebooks, the only feature I use was the 2 day free shipping which half the time they screw you by raising the price of the item, or not telling you it’s 2 days from the time it ships, so I canceled my membership.
Since the 1st of the year they have been sending me the old “we want you back emails” just click here. Then they have the nerve to put this in the email.

Prime $12.99 a month. Prime is just $5.99/month* for qualifying customers with an EBT or Medicaid card. Cancel anytime.

Please don’t take this wrong. I know there are people out there that are struggling, but I don’t like the idea of subsidizing anybody’s Amazon prime membership.

I like Ta Ta's too.  BUT we really like the Amazon Prime.  Includes the movies and we order lots of stuff so we easily get our money's worth.  Just have to make sure it says Prime next to the thing you order.

Has anyone confirmed that our gub'ment is subsidizing the Amazon Prime memberships for EBT or Medicare users?

Or did Amazon make a business decision to give those people a price break to increase their market share?

P.S.  For the record, I don't have anything against EBTs either.

I get medicare but not EBT and this is the first I have heard about a discount on Prime or any subsidy.

OK it is true.  Not government, but Amazon has special rate of $5.99 for folks on EBT or Medicaid.   Poor folks.

We are on a slippery slope, boys.  Amazon is trying to capture enough market share to make it an ESSENTIAL part of our economy.

Tell me it makes business sense for them to sent out a special courier - a car and driver, not a fedEx or UPS van - from Shakopee to the NE metro on a Sunday to deliver a $0.99 book - just because I have a Prime subscription and happened to place my order on Saturday.  I didn't give a rat's patootie when I got the stupid book.

It won't be until after many of the brick and mortar retail outlets are no more that we will be forced into paying the real shipping and delivery costs - when we don't have any other options.

I admit that I shop on amazon, but I don't have a prime account. It's not worth having, the little that I buy from them.

We are still the benefactors of a student rate - or at least we were.  So I guess i'm either falling into their trap or at least I'm part of the bigger problem - depending on how you look at things.

They will of course have limitations.  Out in the boonies like us Fed Ex, UPS, and USPS all deliver Amazon so they are all keeping employees busy.  That is a good thing.  I use Amazon and it is a great tool to compare prices and fast shipping that it is convenient for us.  AND fast.  And I do want to see brick and mortar stores come back and I think they will.  I think they do have a huge place for shopping of all kinds.  Eventually I think people are going to want to see what they buy and get it at the store instead of going home and ordering it online.  But I am no Economics Major so I know nothing.

If you didn't want the one day shipping, you could have gotten a 1 dollar media credit, for "no hurry"

I easily get my money's worth out of prime from free ebooks and emagazines, and movies  etc.   On top of that they deliver to our cabin and save me trips to cook (15 miles round trip) or Virginia (60 miles round trip)
UPS comes down our road everyday anyway.

And at Christmas I don't have to fight the crowds at Target etc.

I'm a big fan.   You do have to be careful with buying stuff so as not to pay an inflated price.     You need to know what the price is supposed to be.

I don't have it but my brother does & he easily gets his $'s worth. We use it a lot when we're at the lake as it can save us a 50(DR) or 80(GR) mile round trip. I think he's been a member almost since they start offering it. This year was the 2nd year I did almost all my Xmas shopping on Amazon. You don't need prime for free shipping then, just> $25 order usually. Not a big fan of fighting the crowds either. Like Del says got to check things out though, if looks to be overpriced, look other places.
