So what kind of rain gauges do you guys use?  I had one of those $1.50 ones and it worked great for years.  I got one of those big ones now but even 1/4" increments are pretty crude.

For those of us keeping score for the MN Climatology Dept. this is the gauge we use. Made in MN, can be purchased for $29 - $39. It's able to measure in hundredths with the center cylinder and the overflow into the outer cylinder allows collection of at least 8". Each of us volunteers are issued one for free with instructions on how to measure not only rainfall but snowfall. The latter is more of an art than a science but it's better than no estimate at all. Actually it's interesting to see how close we are between locations on snowfall so we're either all getting it right or wrong depending on your point of view. At least we're consistent.  :azn:

I use one like Dotch posted.  May need replacement as it's becoming very hard to see through.  Just like how the plastic on car lights cloud over.

Same here. The one at home has been out there for ~11 seasons now and the outer cylinder is getting tougher to see thru due to photo degradation. I dropped the inner cylinder on the garage floor and cracked it but was able to get a replacement from my SWCS office. The funnel still has the Product Alternatives sticker on it so if you're looking for replacement parts or a new gauge, here's a link. They were being manufactured in Fergus Falls but I see the address on the link now is Jacksonville FL.

Thanks Dotch, I will be ordering an outer tube for mine. Or maybe the whole thing.
