I grew up with cleaning and cooking sunfish that way!!!!! probably still would cept when I got divorced and had custody of my kids cleaning bones outta them was not in the cards, so I still scale and fillet now!!!!!

crappie on the other hand...……...naw  :tut: :tut: :tut: there other peoples fish!!!!!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: although fresh from the lake to frying pan aint so bad!!!!!!!!

I filet em yet but I still have to do old school for ma and pa, except we dont take the back fin off and it's not done in a bunch of oil, just a smidge of shortening is the way the old timers like it.

X 2.    Ma and pa prefer them this way. They say they taste better.
Anything that is free is worth saving up for.

The first time I remember eating bluegills (I must've been 5 or 6 years old) my Dad cooked them like this.  He missed a scale or two and one of them got stuck in the back of my throat like a popcorn husk, only worse. I remember coughing like crazy and my mom thought I was choking.  Have not had them that way since.  Maybe it's time to try it again, I keep hearing it's the best way to eat them.

the best fish ever when i grew up was northern, madenin to steakes like slamon, rolled in flour and seasoning, put in a fewnstrips of bacon, then put ina roaster, amazinky good

I did eat a pile of these last August...just hate cleaning these little guys, they're big fish 'tato chips for me.   *CHOMP*

I made this in 1980 (so says my written date on back) to help cut them little fellers up. You can buy the toothed clamp from Normark, cut out a nice piece of wood with yer scroll saw, run yer router down it for the grooves, sand it down, oil it up, and yer good to go. Works slick!

It was old school. 1980.  Manual knives worked then just like now for small fish.

knifes on pan fish and electric on larger fish.. for me any way...

I fillet mine and they are my favorite fish I think.  I do like them whole like the pics too though.  I love nords too.  It is so easy to get those Y bones when fileting too.
