I went to do a brake job on the truck today cause they were making a little noise....here is how it played out....

I bought the pads on line for store pickup at the local Napa...I went to town, payed and picked them up. I proceeded to remove the wheels....(who ever tightened the lugs last, stiff armed them) I broke the wrench cause I had to add a 5 foot bar....Back to town I went for an adapter to go from a 1/2 drive to 3/4....I got the tire off, then worked on the caliper... looked at the pads, and they were wrong (assuming they were for the front, not the rear) so.
..back to town I went.... got the correct ones...and the rest is history.....
What should have been a 1/2 hour break job...took me 6 hours  :doah:  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I think they torque the hell out of them to avoid liability should they come off.  Any time I have tires changed or worked on first thing I do is loosen and retorque the nuts so I know I will be able to get them off if I have a flat.  Last fall I couldn't get the nuts loose with and impact set to well over 100 pounds.  Scheesh.

Got an old school tire wrench that is X shaped, had it forever. Some shops actually torque 'em to specs down home & then tell you to check them after 25-30 miles. Even found 1 or 2 that I nudged a little after my last rotation. :happy1:

It goes on my lugs too, if I do it myself. Always get some on me too! :bonk: That stuff doesn't come off very easy , we have a couple bottles of it up here too.

Yup I put anti-sieze  on before putting it back together. I drove it to Rush City and back this morning and then rechecked the torque, they were still tight.
