it was not a scam...even if it dont control your odor 100% they are some pretty warm comfortable clothing to be hunting in minus all the weight of having to bulk up. so either way its a win win. i just think people get bored and they find ways to try to make alot of money.

2 years ago I hunted bear with a guy that swore by scent lok.  We had a bear coming to the bait station every day before dark.  He hunted the spot with a bad wind because he said that the bear wouldn't be able to scent him because of his "super hero" outfit.  The bear waited for him to leave after dark to come in.

I hunted the stand 2 weeks later with a good wind.  The bear came in and circled down wind first and scented me.  Smart old bear.  They don't get old by being stupid.

Scent lok has a great ad campain.  Many people believe it and buy the stuff.  You don't have to fool all the people all the time, Just some of the people, some of the time to make money.

LOL. I can't believe so many hunters are defeneding Scent-lok. It was a scam. Activated carbon would pick up any kind of scent the moment it left the factory and all the way along. If it is on shelves or display at stores it has been picking up scent the whole time. The activated carbon, even if it was fresh and you wore it wouldn't pick off much of your scent anyway. Your breath is your worst violator. The best thing you can do is hunt with the wind, user cover scents and keep foriegn odors to mimimum.

If someone likes the product and thinks it's worth the money why wouldn't they? Maybe it's worked for them, maybe they think it's warm or comfortable or whatever. Personnally I don't buy into what I call "new fangled gimmicks" I tend to use gear and equipment that has stood the test of time, relying on my knowledge and ability to use it properly. For those that like to try new fads, they are entitled to do so. They can form thier own oppinion of the product after using it and I'll listen to them talk about it. I still won't buy it til it's the same price as my other $20 hunting coats.

My approach to things is this simple whether hunting or trapping.

I am not going to be able to hide the fact that I am or was there(regardless of clothing or cover scent).

Approaching the situation in a manner that will not give the game any reason to put up it's guard. I don't believe animals are scared of human scent or activity unless you give them reason to. Most hunters I feel give them reason to.

Why did the deer circle downwind of me? My opinion is because I screwed up. Do the deer always circle downwind of that particular spot? I doubt it as the deer trail is where it is for a reason, they are using it. The manner in which I approached made them suspicious.

I agree Griz... I buy scent killer sprays, but thats about it really... I see guys buying all the spendy stuff, and then smoking cigarettes and standing by the campfire....  Its funny how some people go to these extreme lengths to stay scent free, yet others dont use any of the stuff and smoke cigs all day in their stand... I wash my deer hunting stuff in scent free soap, hang them ouside for a week then keep the stuff in bags till I walk to the stand opening morning.  I take the stuff off right when I get back to camp after hunting for the day & dont stand in front of a tailpipe, or hang out by the fire, and dont cook in my hunting stuff...(but what if deer like the smell of bacon & eggs?) thats my stragety... I didnt even use my bottle of scent killer this year...could I do more?  yeah,  but I do enough to not smell like a big human scented air freshener.... the thing is, to a deer that has made it through a deer season or two, I still smell like trouble to them... you cant get around the scent of your breath, or the scent that still pours out of the top of your coat, the openings of your pants and sleeves, so reguardless of the precautions ya take, you still need to use the wind in your favor.... granted, all the other stuff you do to be invisible scent wise cant hurt, but, its all how far ya want to go with it I guess... to each his own.... its all good. :happy1:
