2006 polaris drive belt issue

I'm going 600 miles with my polaris sportsman 450. trashed another belt today. anyone have any experience with this? I use it hard, pulling logs, and implements and anything else that gets in my way. does just hard use cause those rubber belts to come apart?

I've had similar experience with my Polaris......
If I use it for anything else but riding or running a sprayer, I burn up the belts.
Even with the plow that I had mounted on it, I burned up the belt.

I make parts for wheelers for a living, and have tried different clutches with the same result.
I gave the plow to my buddy that has a 700, and he fried his belt.

So, I don't think they are heavy duty enough to take the strain.
If I run a disk or drag, I use my Yamaha, and never had a problem.

Just my opinion.........

My buddy always had belt/clutch issues with his 06(05?) 650 sportsman, especially when the wheeler got wet and then riden for a while....Yeah, I have a Yammy Big Bear that has no automatic stuff, doesnt even have a speedo/odometer!  The thing has been bullet-proof so far(knock on wood) Problem is... ya cant buy any wheelers like it anymore, I just think "high-tech" and atv's aren't the best mix....  Best thing it does have is a CARB with a heating element in it.... ALWAYS starts in the coldest weather...havent even had to put a new battery in it yet! (probably cause I use it all the time) wish car batteries lasted 8-9 years like the one in the ole Big Bear....

I guess I'll just keep a spare and all the tools to change it out tucked inside the little trunk on it. and be glad it's not a bigger problem, like a clutch or what not.

I would check the clutch pads though......
If you fried a few belts, odds are you fried those to.

They are real easy to change, and very inexpensive.

thanks for idea. I haven't put it back together yet so I think I'll just change em out to be safe. any tricks to it? or is it pretty straight forward for a somewhat mechanical guy?

Nope, no tricks to it.
It's pretty simple to do.

You can get the diagram of the clutch off of the net.
There should be 3 pads that ride on the ramp surface inside the clutch housing.

If you have any trouble, just ask....and I'll walk ya through it.

#17 are the pads that may need to be replaced.

Last time I checked they were only a few bucks a piece.

This is pretty much all I use my wheeler for also, plus pulling the fish house out on the lake and plowing.  That is why I own a Honda Foreman 500.  Nothing fancy, but I know I will always get home.
