Pheasant Question ???

While out doing my farm work this year I have noticed an....(what I would call an oddity)....(something weird) There have been alot of roosters without white rings running around? Is this normal? Is it a different strain of pheasant? Birth defect? Exposer to nucular waste? Got something to do with genetics much like an albino?

Just before typing this...I had another one run across the hay field....
They got a full tail, and look to be mature birds....just no white ring.

Maybe I should quit

I honestly have no idea, but this is what I've heard:

1-there are a number of the "True Pheasant" subspecies that have no ring. They are grouped into a broad category called Black-Necked Pheasants, also called Old English Pheasants. (in England)

2-During the molt, they loose their ring for a while about this time of year.

jeffs right HD. there molting right now, but that doesnt make sense why they dont have a ring, i mean all the ducks at work are mallards so they have a ring around the neck and they have that they just havent gotten there head color yet, i would say it has something to do with molting, but then again it could also be a black necked pheasant...dunno if i ever heard of those being in mn though...or you could  some more and the ring may appear,,,,,

I didn't know they molted.....

It just seemed wierd to see so many....when I've never seen them before.
