I know it’s only Feb but who is bow fishing this year?? If you want to and don’t have the equipment don’t wait. You know how it is, something will come up and it will be fall before you know it. Gear up now.
I started last year and got a few. Now my gear is set, the boat and new trolling motor is ready. Maybe we could do a MNO get-together and kill some fish.

I might try going this year, I have never done it but there are alot of guys up by my cabin that are out there bowfishing the streams for suckers.  Down here in Winona there are alot of carp, not sure how everyone does it but it definitely looks fun.
I plan on looking into it and seeing how things go.
Any tips for a newbie?

I havea the bow I use for bow hunting, I would assume I could use the same one, just get one of those arrows with the rope on it.  I DONT KNOW!

yes your bow should work fine. but you might want to lower the weight. I would check out AMS bowfishing on the web to get an idea of what you need for a real & arrows You can get cheaper ones out there but I like the AMS pro real. and you will want an arrow that has a slide on it for the string NOT just a hole in the arrow.

Bow hunting in 80degree weather, not a bad way to spend a day. and no limit!!

I got  a bow last year and ended up not getting it going for carp and used it for targets Turkey, and Deer this last year. Depending on how much I have to work depends if I will get out to do it,

Does anyone know if u can have a bow set up for bow fishing in the boat while you have fishing rods at the same time? I have heard yes and no on that question.looking for a definite answer.

I wonder how awsome it would be to pack the new Fish Hawk with people and do some shootin? :happy1:

50+

I am still learning, but I would say 10lb less than your norm is good

Why do you want to drop your weight? Does it have something to do with the arrow?

drop your weight so you dont have a arrow smacking the bottom after it travels through the fish .

Also, if you miss it's easier to get the arrow back out of the muck.
And it does not take as much to penatrate a carp, cause you are much closer to the fish, then say, a deer. 5 yards verses 40

How about Eagle in Maple Grove. May 1st. Teams of two. Canoes work best. The water is real clear and there are some big carp and 8-10lb dogs. A good chance at a big snapper as well. The only thing to stop it would be weather. if it is windy or big rain it is too hard to get em. otherwise Sun. You will need to contact the Maple Grove P.D. for a discharge of bow permit on the lake.

In a canoe Ken? Little dangerous? Seems like it would be pretty tippy.

They are in the shallows around the cattails. It is hard to hide with a bigger boat. A jon would suffice. It is really a fun hunt.

I went out and arrowed a few this week by a dam. First time bowfishing in the winter was alot of fun! Just need to find a way to keep the line and reel from freezing up! Anyone else ever try it in the winter?

How many? Is there a lot of opportunity? Worth the drive?

Between me and a friend we got 12. Had some problems with equipment otherwise would have been a lot more. There is a lot of them in there for sure. But they tend to stay in the middle not giving a chance to arrow them. I would say come on up and give it a try but it closes sunday already so not much of a chance left!

Hey guys I am not set up for it nor would I have the time then. I don't know what you guys do with the fish but if ya get a bunch, I can always use them. Not anymore than I could heap in the back of my truck though.

Ask the marina owner if they would protest you doing it.  Otherwise, I don't see why you couldn't.

theres not really much regulation at all when it comes to rough fish. they just opened night bowfishing state wide this year. my bro just built a nice shooting platform for our duck boat and has been waiting for season to start. you can shoot from just about anything and anywhere there is a few regs but they pretty much want people to take them out.
my wife said it.... im OFFICIALLY ADDICTED to MNO!!

Too windy for bowfishing today. Too hard to see through the rough water. Oh well.

Yep, the wind sucks!  Be careful where you go in the cities I would recommend checking with the county sheriff on the lake of your choice. I have heard lots of good things about Tonka; Started planning a trip then I talked to the water patrol and found out it was illegal. I know people do it but I will not be one of them. Don’t need the ticket and I don’t feel like having my stuff in a state auction over a carp.
Good shooting

Tonka update----- I have still been looking in to this and a friend told me the CO for the Tonka area said it was legal. So I got his info and talked to the CO myself and let me just say he was not pleased with the Water patrol for giving me bad info. He works the lake and said it is legal from a boat but not from shore! So with that said I am planning on going out there Sunday. To kill some fish, MNO get together??? I think my boat is full but could be fun
