Do we have any smelters out there?

I have been fishing the rivers around Duluth and the water temps have been close to the 40 degree mark. So, the smelt should be running soon. Also, I saw some fellers getting ready to go out as I stop fishing. Has anybody had, or heard of any luck? I heard rumors of people getting some on the Wisconsin side...but, that was just a rumor.

Anybody getting any smelt?

Water is still to cold, need that 45degree stuff and wth lack of rain the rivers are not warming up any. Big lake is a big lake and water out there is 37-38 takes a while for it to even go up a few degrees. Give it a few more weeks and even then I will guess it will be hit and miss. Guys have been giving it a shot but I think it is more out of boredom then really expecting to get anything.

Yea, I stopped and talked to a couple guys that were out trolling in front of the rivers. They said that they were graphing groups of smelt as they trolled. So, they are staging out by the rivers. Just a matter of water temp and time. (and some rain)
