Hunting is not life and death. It is more important than that.

Science geeks rule....

I was always under the impression that they see black, white, and grey.  Neat article to read and learn from.

I did not read the article but I assume it refers to the make up of the deers eyes.  Rods and cones.   We humans have more cones than rods thus loose our vision rapidly in low light conditions. Color vision comes from the cones. Our peripheral vision is where we have the rods.  No color.-When you see something move out of the corner of your eye(an expression) it is in black and white.  What you and deer will pick up with the rods of your eye is movement in black and white..   Deer have way more rods in their eyes so while they can see color in daylight, their perception of movement is incredible.  Their night vision is also enhanced because of the rods.   Best advise is be still.  I will read the article and take my foot out of my mouth if I am way off base.

I am pretty sure they see blaze orange. They sure seem to erupt out of cover more than when I used to wear red. But perhaps I do not move as stealthily through the woods as when I was younger.

Soooo... my idea to dress up as a Smurf dressed in blaze orange probably won't lead to success?

I heard a while ago that they did a test when switching to blaze orange and hot pink/blaze pink/whatever pink was better for human visibility and hardest for the deer to see than blaze orange; but they didn't go with it because too many "manly men" would be offended wearing it.  I don't know, if it's true i'd wear it.  I'm not out there to look good for anyone.  Also, if it's true they should amend the rules.  If certain people can wear red for relgious reasons i should be able to wear blaze pink for reasons of common sense.  That's if that whole thing is true...

Yeah, I think the hot pink, orange, yellow, green - any of those neon colors could be legal.... its mostly for safety, not a fashion statement and its easy to see the neon colors no matter what shade it is!
Whatever is best for not being seen by the deer, I am ok with!   :happy1:

But I suppose for retail sake, 1 color is alot easier than carrying 4 different colors.....

I don't know if I showed you all my halloween costume... I've been wearing it for a couple months now and have taken two does wearing it. Its really worked well... I fit right in out there in the woods.

And for the record that really is me. Had to dress up for the daughter  :happy1:
