Grindstone Lake

Well, after much consideration and investigation I've decided to put some effort towards getting back into trout fishing through the ice. Grindstone lake will be by victim this year (or the other way around). I am wondering if anyone out there has fished this lake and is willing to give some insight on spots/baits/presentations. It holds a vast amount of species and since I'll be there anyways I figured I'd try for them all; Lakers, browns, bows, sunnies, crappies and northerns. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated  .

     How much time are you investing?  I can't promise anything unless you will be working it.  If you are going to hit it hard I may be able to help. Your post was pretty broad.

I'll be hitting it as hard as I can, couple times a week hopefully. I'll be there for the opening weekend. It is about an hour from the house so I'd be able to go during the week in the mornings til just after lunch and then on the weekends there-after. My wife is being made aware of it too so it should be a go for my plan. I'm an old fashioned ice guy though.....no power auger, no electronics...I guess I'm just obstenate (sp?)! LOL!

     Do you have a digital camera?  If you can come up with one and are willing to post a couple of pics I will   hook you up as a field tester.  I have not fished the lake but it looks like you are keying on lakers but willing  to chase all species present.  No electronics is even better.  ATI-47s are going into Grindstone with Fireranger and no electronics.  This will be fun

I do have one (digital) and am looking into getting another. My phone takes great pics that I can download as well. I can post pics for you, if not, Red can talk me through it. I figure that if I can't locate the lakers, I can always try for streamers or pannies too. I'm stoked!! Supposedly this lake freezes pretty late due to it's depth. Let's wish for some good ole' Canadian Cold!

   Sounds good.  We are going white, glow white,  white with orange glow, and white splash  red.    Last resort glow red/splash white.   That will be for opener.   That will be a good place to start.  Ok with you?

Sounds good to me! What size/weight are you thinking of? Lakers like the bigger stuff and the streamers and such would all be panfish size or a little larger.

     I have a couple designed for lakers.  They have not been tried yet.  I'm thining 3/4 and 1/2 oz.  If you can find them when they are shallower you can go smaller.  I will hook you up with a nice variety to try.  The original 47 with the glow chart. and orange glow did well on Lakers in Canada for a friend of mine.

Havent fished Grindstone lake.... fished the river for smallies.  I do know a little about the lake though, make sure you talk to the bait shops up there about the ice conditions, its a really deep spring fed lake that has its own smelt run.... someone told me that there are salmon in Grindstone also....   Interesting lake....

I've fished it...it's a fun lake! 

Fishing without electronics may be kinda tuff though, but can be done.
Make sure you got a good map, and like Thunder said, I would check with the bait stores for ice conditions. (never caught any Salmon) But, I have caught a few trout out'a there.

Heck, this is right off on the way to our cabin...I might have to poke in there on our way out some sunday once laker opens.....

       I got the pm.  I will be putting these together soon.  Really looks like an interesting lake.  I might have to give it a shot myself.   I would have to use the vex.  Especially if going after lakers.

   Fireranger I have your stuff put together  I hope to send it out today.  Trying to stick to whites.  There are 3 panfish cribs out there.  I don't have the locations but if there is a deep one it might be a place to start.  Check with the bait shops in the area for guidance.
