DNR Forestry in Deer River plans prescribed burns this spring
(Released May 20, 2011)

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ Forestry Division in the Deer River area will conduct several prescribe burns in the Inger vicinity between May 23 and June 15.

The burn dates will be selected based on weather conditions and vegetation phenology.

Approximately 40 acres of pine under burning will be done in the Two Mile Lake area.

Objectives of the burns are to reduce woody shrub density, prepare a seedbed for natural pine regeneration and increase blueberry production. To accomplish this objective, the sites will need to be burned two or three times over successive years.

For more information, contact the Deer River area office at 218-246-8343.
