Last year I bought my son a Razor Edge Diamond by Bowtech for around that price.
It's completly adjustable for draw lenghts and poundage as he grows.
He loves it, and it shoots really sweet.  :happy1:

Get one that is easily adjustable so in a few years you dont need to buy another one
I would check out the mission menace

We just got our 10 1/2 year old a Bear Apprentice bow. It is adjustable 15-27 inch draw length and 20-50 pounds draw weight and only weighs 2.9 lbs. It is similar to the Mission Menace or Diamond Razors Edge with a little more adjustment on the bottom end for beginners unable to pull back the 30 lb right away. It's around $280 for the ready to hunt package at most archery shops, Cabela's and Bass Pro Shop.

My son was shooting paper plate size groupings out of the box with it with basically no prior shooting experience on a "real" compound bow. Now we just need to get his arm strength built up to be able to pull back more than 15-20 times so we can do more target shooting and get him more comfortable shooting.  :happy1:
