Rain and cold is still the weather pattern up here in the northland. The water temps are only in the 50’s yet on most lakes so we are in a stalled weather pattern. The good part is the walleye have been biting, we can get good shiners yet.
I have been fishing winnie, leech, and bowstring. The fish for the most part have been shallow still from 6-9 ft chasing around the minnows on the flats. Jig and minnows seem to be the best presentation and shiners the best minnow. It seems I could get by without earlier with chubs but now they are really liking those shiners. The more wind we have the better the shallow fish bite. If we have no wind I have been just starting to look around out in the deeper water and have had some success finding fish out deep. Just put on a heavier jig and start checking out the deeper water, they will be there soon.
the crappies have been a fun side fish. I have found them in the shallow water when the weather is warm and just off the edge when the water is cooler. So pick up some minnows and get out fishing.
good luck
