Smoke pole season

What load do ya push thru you smoke pole, an lets keep this a hunting related topic I push two 777 and a shock wave 200 gr. but have been meaing to go to the 250 hornady sst but cant find them around here, have to order on line but to late for the season. the shock waves gives me about 2 inch group at a hundy.

I push a 245gr. PowerBelt with 2-50gr. IMR White Hot Pellets.   Great load out to around 120-yards or so. 

I like this load a lot and just love those IMR White Hot pellets, I can get 6-9 rounds through the barrel before fist cleaning when at the range...very clean shooting.

80 grains of ffg loose 777 powder pushing a 440grain poured soft lead 500  smith & wesson pistol bullet. They dont move after being hit with it!

2 50 gr. Pyrodex pills pushing a 245 gr. sabot. It will shoot better than I can see with open sights.

I use two "Jim Shockey's Gold sticks".  I think the bullet is Knight lead bullets with sabots.  50 cal. 260 grain.  I can hit a gallon jug at 50 yards which is about as good as I expect to do with open sights.  I did shoot a deer two years ago and it pretty much fell where I shot it.  I was wondering what most people do regarding loading and unloading during the season.  I load up at home before the season and if I don't shoot anything, unload at home after the season.  Do most of you leave your gun loaded all season?  Of course, I do remove the primer when not hunting.

Since I only hunt my home property I leave my rifle loaded all season and fire it to empty it at the end of the season unless I get a deer. I will leave the rifle in the garage overnight so it does not get condensation from the house.

I shoot 75gr of FFF Triple-7 sitting under a .54 caliber patched round ball. Shoot this out of my T/C renegade.

Good point.  I usually leave the gun and all my hunting stuff in the PU so it doesn't come back in until the season is over.  Note: This is not a work truck, just a play truck.  I just took out the rifle stuff and my bow stuff is still in it.

Boar, I have shot hornady did not like how they shot.
I have the best luck with TC mag sabot with 2 777. in My pro hunter

Ive left the ML in the truck before without primer, several times only to hear a pppssstllll thump an watch the slug dump in frotn of me. never again. allI could think of was the hearter had warmed it up enough to creat condensation an foul the pellets. Ive always wonderd the legalities about leaving loaded an taking out the primer, never seen it in any regs that I can remember. Its tecnicley still loaded. yea Im thinking on going to 240 grain in the shockwaves little esier to find around here. HD sent ya pm.

Below is taken directly from the Hunting Regulations booklet.  It mentions flintlock and percussion cap but does not specifically mention ML that use the 209 primers. I assume they are the same.
Which ignition system does your MN use?  My gun is in the case on the floor so it probably doesn't get much above the outside air temp.   


Firearms Transportation:
unless transporting under the exceptions listed below, a person may not
transport a Firearm, including a handgun, in or on a motor vehicle unless the
Firearm is:
• unloaded* and in a case made expressly for that purpose;
• unloaded* and in the closed trunk of a motor vehicle; or
•    carried under a valid permit to carry a pistol or handgun.

*    An “unloaded” Firearm is defined as a firearm without ammunition in the barrels and
magazine, if the magazine is in the firearm. A muzzle-loading firearm with a flintlock
ignition is unloaded if it does not have priming powder in a pan. A muzzle-loading
firearm with percussion ignition is unloaded if it does not have a percussion cap on a
nipple.

Guess Im the only traditionalist.... still use a Hawkens with powder and roundball and patch...  I have a T/C Encore but like the old Hawken better...    Have thought of getting a Flintlock...

Corny, I got a 45 Hawken too....but, my eyes are so bad that I can't shoot it at a deer. I got a permit for a scope on my CVA

your not alone with the hawkens.. I got mine the old fashioned way this spring.. stole it.. no wait I traded for it.. that's it.. TRADED for it.

I have a 50 cal.. hawkens cabelas brand. shooting patch and ball.. 70gr FFG.. lead ball.. been reading up on the season.. this will be my first muzzleloader season,  think i'll get out this weekend.. sounds like the weather may be just right, don't think I could handle another day in the stand with the wind/rain beating on my face.. not like it could make me uglier.. just don't like how it feels.

whats the rules with blaze orange and muzzleloader? I have a nice wool set I was thinking of wearing out, use it when I go west. but not sure on the orange requirements.

Blaze orange rules apply the same to ML as Rifle season.
