Saga continues~

I see we still have life regarding this debachel, and we have folks that haven't a clue what we're talking about or even have a dog in this fight...

Here are a few things what we know as fact~

The walleye decline started when the netting started in 1999,myself and other passionet folks that are concerned with the conservation and well being of not only mille lacs the 12 counties that are under the umbrella of this sham of a treaty from 1837 way before minnesota was declared a state.

Another fact is when we take fish about to spawn before they spawn this takes millions and millions of walleye eggs out of circulation and puts a huge dent in the population over time which we are seeing today.

More importantly in order to grasp the netting and how gill netting is dentermental to fish brood stock across the country here is the reality of what these 8 tribes are doing to us and our lake as we tax payers will end up fixing the problem that these folks created, business as usuall.

So,for the few nay sayer's on this board look close and listen to this clip closely maybe you'll get a sense of how gill netting effects our fish population here and else where,oh and we know our local natives have been carring on hunting and gathering rights before we were born and passing on the tradition, this gill netting from other tribes doesn't need to be and shouldn't.these folks have the rights for now but fail to do the right thing as in not netting~

Johnson is running for governor, and says he's going to get the feds involved, and replace the DNR with folks from the area to support the lake..... to me, it sounds like some more political  :bs: to get elected.

I basically moved in 1996 to the Mille lacs area. When I got there hwy 169 and 47 were an absolute madhouse. Opening day, the night before was insane on the highway. It was always a big event getting off the lake by the curfew was it 10pm idk but the accesses were loaded. Slip bobber and a leech and it was insane. It slowly started to worsen. Here we are. There's still people keeping walleyes in the winter or from their docks in May early June. To me it seems why isn't there these giant year classes of walleyes I would have to guess at least some % is on the nets shoulders. The fish are trying to spawn and every year slaughtered at some extent. I'll say what I always do the casino has huge $ yet they won't help themselves. There's greed in their wallets also. They could dig and aerate enough ponds full of walleyes to feed every Native American in the state but they won't do it. They'd rather advertise for the Twins games or whatever, unreal really. So the saga goes on. Can anyone guess when Mille Lacs will have a walleye season of some sort again ? Seems weird a bit mass outcry from Caucasians no outcry from the tribe like the casino is in the black so who cares about the fish. They could operate their own hatchery but they like us stocking the pond. Hmm

It's no minor coincidence that the decline in the walleye numbers corresponds with the netting.  Go figure.  I will never spend one penny in any of the tribe operated entities on that lake or anywhere else.  Been up 169 lately?  Half the places are palatial Indian businesses, and they there's all the boarded up cabins and resorts.  It wouldn't surprise me if the tribe buys up that whole side  of the lake and puts up some Disney-esque resort over there.

Agreed, the west side of mille lacs was the 1st to let go,just the damn casino is left,3 resort/resturants burnt down on the north end years back, now they own the corner of 169/27 lundeens old bait shop...

They (natives) keep chipping away throughout the mille las lake community with deep casino pockets.

Lets start by building seven state-run casinos in Pine City, Sandstone, Brainerd, Milaca, Bloomington, Mankato, and Duluth and see how things change.  And oh, by the way, figure out sports gambling while you are at it.

Sounds good, but I wonder if it is allowed by the deal negotiated by Rudy Perpich, governor of Minnesota back in the day, that never expires?

Yes, I think legislation would need to be re-written and passed in this case, but I'd be willing to support a candidate who could make it happen.

And, what would motivate the bands to renegotiate a sweetheart deal that never expires and has no payments to the state?

We can retroactively declare Rudy Perpich mentally incompetent at the time he passed the law, opening the table for all new negotiations.  That was Reb-o riffic easy.   :rotflmao:

Too bad, now we don't have a family gathering there anymore due that being bought out.  Used to be fun to go there.

Guyz, state run casino's won't fly...remember from past threads, sole gaming rights were piggy backed on the 1837 treaty rights vote, not sure what gaming rights include, slots? i'm guessing thats the big money draw, but the natives would get 50% of proceeds if the state should fire one up.

Now,an investor could come in and get the ball rolling as a private investor.
