Its tough for an audience like this to ignore the political component of Dick's decisions, but this move looks like mostly business.

First, they have 850 stores total and they are pulling ALL hunting-related gear (not just rifles and ammo) from only 125 of them that are losing money selling those items.  I don't know where those stores are, but lets say - for example - that one of them sat on the location of the KMart store on Lake Street in Minneapolis.  I can't imagine they'd sell much hunting gear there.

Everyone can have their opinion and "vote" with their dollars, but Dick's stock is up.

The other thing I found interesting was their decision to get rid of Reeebok in favor of trying to sell their own in-house brands.  How do you thing that is goona work out for them?

"I'm goona go to the store and get me some new Reeboks." :happy1:

Yup good points SteveO.  But Dick's still sucks.  They will go the way of Gander.

What I find interesting is bananas dipped in chocolate pudding are delicious, and Dick's sells neither one.

I went into the one in Rochester exactly twice.   First time just to check it out.  Second time when they had Kershaw knives BOGO in their ad.   Tried to get out of selling me the two Leeks I picked out, but the department guy took my side.   Score.

I don't need their golf stuff or atheleisure clothing.
Actually I did buy a couple of folding chairs once at the one in Newport Beach.   They have held up better than the ones from Walmart.

Believe it or not.  I went with my Buddy to the new Dick's in Maplewood Mall in the late 80's early 90's when he got his Colt Python for about $600.  He said Barry these are going way up in price soon.  The clerk told us that too.   I'm thinking they are talking a hundred bucks or so.  I regret not buying one....  It seemed strange that they even sold guns in the store.  Seemed like a tennis clothes store to me.

I think the real reason Dicks stopped selling guns in some stores is that they weren't selling very many and were losing money on those departments so they shut them down.    That's a conspiracy if I ever heard one.

Reminded me of sports authority, used to be nearby.    Closed down a couple years ago.   Never saw much of a reason to go there.   They had a tiny fishing section, a tiny gun section, a large sneaker section, along with atheleisure clothing, golf and tennis, etc.

If you had played softball, you'd know why to go in there.
