Great idea for you DIYers from Forcier's Fishing Guide Service. He uses 3/4" PVC pipe – cuts the opening and plops caps on each end. Said he makes them 1.5" longer than the rod to slide in and out of the holder:

that was interesting Lee,been using these styrofoam tubes for my crawler/leech rigs lindy rigs for years,so much better than the small diameter store bought ones that mono coil-up from memory,usully make up two different leader holders,one for bait rigs with spinner blades and another for plain hook rigs all 10'+ long,been making rigs all winter stuck in the house,that or working on my mopar.spring is near.
