 Just the opposite here, cut my teeth fishin eyes on URL before the grandparents bought our place in late 63. It's only ~ an hour for us & will still go up there at least once a year. It's good in a late Spring/ice out but is usually very busy then. Don't remember the last time we came home empty up there but I like the early fall bite much better. Late September-early October is much less crowded & the :fish2: are a lot easier for me to find. Haven't been on the ice on URL in at least 60 years.

It's not a secret that I am not a RL fan for several reasons.  I don't like playing battle boats and I can catch just as many fish on lakes much closer.

They lowered the size of the 1 you can keep on Red from 20 inches to 17. They say the 2019 age class is super abundant. And about 15 inches in size.

Sounds to me like it would be fun to help them get rid of them.

Sure does sound like fun.  I would even push harder to get our new work in progress smoker completed.

Yeah, it seems like the cow is out of the barn with that one.  They were put in there in 1905.  Sure, native bull trout and cutthroat may compete with the "invaders," but they're still there.  Perhaps not in the same numbers, but they didn't go away.

It seems like its part of a woke movement in environmental circles to correct man's sins of the past against nature.  Removing an unnecessary dam to restore a free-running salmon river is a good idea, but to think you're going to remove a fish species like lake trout from the biggest freshwater lake in the west...  g'luck.

The good news is there seems to be plenty of 'em and it ain't hurtin' the fishery any by taking as many as they want.  :old fisherman:
...Until the next generation comes along and decides that lake trout are fish too, and they have every right to be in the lake as the native trout.  :bonk:

No different than a bunch of the lakes in northern MN like Bad Medicine and Long Lake Campground that are stocked with rainbows. They're being managed by the DNR but what's to say as you mention that down the road sometime the woke movement or whoever decides that's not what was meant to be because "they know better". In the meantime, I'm going to continue offing house sparrows, starlings, carp or any other invasive species any chance I get. Actually I'd like to eat some of those Eurasian collared doves. They're unprotected & looks like there might actually be some meat on them!  :happy1:
