1-4-08  Permanent houses being towed out by wheelers in the Crane Island area.  Several in the group towing them said they have measured a consistent 12 inches from Crane south.  They are not using vehicles larger then their wheelers though.  One gent drove from West Access to Crane, and found only one area where there was 8", otherwise 12 pretty consistent.

Me and the boy just got off the lake, he caught his first crappy though the ice. We were just south of Wilson and I measured the ice at 10". We took the wheeler out and the fish trap, we caught our limit, he caught more cause he can't take fish off yet or put minnows on.

Fished the west side on Saturday from 3:15-8:00, the lake was extremely busy, we fished a new spot and did very well in 20-26' fow. Managed to catch 1 perch, 1 walleye, a 22" pike, and many crappies and it was nice to be fishing with nobody around. There were vehicles all over and I did find a spot where there was only about 8" of ice, and the ice was very slushy, not strong. I wouldn't want to be in a vehicle and come across that spot. The ice is not going to get any better in the next few days.
