I started a log, made my own to suit my needs.  It contains the following info:

-Lake
-Date
-Time of Day
-Weather Conditions
-GPS Waypoint #
-Depth
-Water Clarity
-Barometric Pressure
-Type of Structure
-Target Species
-Species Caught
-QTY
-Weight
-Presentation
-Live Bait/Size/Type
-Lure/Jig/Rig

I know that seems like an aweful lot of info. to keep tabs on, and it is.  But the more info. you can document, the better off you might be next year at that time-or the next time on that lake.  I wrote mine up in Microsoft Excell.  I am not a consistant user of it yet-but it's on the list of "things to do" this year!  ;) :happy1:  I can try to figure a way to post it here if anyone is interested.

Like Woody I have been trying to train myself to keep a log. I'm not as consistent with it as I'd like to be but it clearly is an exceptional fishing tool. One thing I've been trying to remind myself is that any sort of attempt to record a description of the day helps me to recall more about the day than just what I right down. I also find little sketches are very helpful.

I have friends that have detailed, accurate logs that they have kept for years and I always wish I had started sooner.

Super great ideas

I am making up from your ideas a log book, and print them up, i will be punching holds in te paper and putting them in a 3 ring binder.. then add tabs later for each year..

I keep two log books every year I buy a daily planner and make entries in it. For fishing I list name of the lake, who I went with ( just as important as any entry) water temp, keepers and  out standing moments to help jog my memory, a big fish, thunderstorms wild life sighting, falling overboard..  The 2nd log I keep on the computer, this one is a running total of fish caught for the season and once again info on what lake and water temp. The best part about this one it allows me to search back on a given day to see how I did on that day a year or 2 or three ago. I don't track all of the others stats that  have been mentioned here simply because I don't think I have ever run into the same fishing conditions on the same lake twice. My computer log goes back 8 years and my log books start in 77 gee 31 years this year.. ( Had to look ) Logs can be as simple or as complex as you like, the biggest thing is to start one today. Makes it a lot easier when you say " Remember when" and you can point out the day on your log.
