Great new!! Up here in Ely, we are beginning to get out from under the cloak of old man winter. Today was the first opportunity to get out and set some bait traps. Although many of the larger lakes still have a moderate amount of ice on them, it should be off by next weekend for the opener. Many of the smaller lakes are free of ice now that the temps have warmed slightly. Johnson lake, one of our many crappie lakes is free of ice and some locals are starting to head that way.
Some folks are stocking up on smelt from the open shorelines of Burntside.
It can only get better from now on. Good luck!
