Hey guys, I was very happy when I stumbled across this site.  At age 31 this is my first year of hunting, I have always wanted  to give it a shot but have quite honestly been a little intimidated.  I have had a great mentor that has taken me under his wing to show me the ropes and teach me a lot.  I am going to start with bow hunting and I am very excited and anxious to get out.  I am in the information gathering process right now and I am trying to absorb as much information as I can to get prepared.  I am wondering if anyone has any tips or words of wisdom to a first timer.  Thank you in advance!

D-Tangler,

Welcome to MNO!! :toast:  I am sure you will love it here!!  I'm glad that you decided to give hunting a shot, and after this year I bet you will be totally addicted like the rest of us!!  I personally do not bow hunt, I only rifle hunt, but I know that there are A LOT of avid bow hunters on our site with a ton of information.  You sound like you are definately on the right track though since you already have somebody that is teaching you the ropes, and your never too old to start hunting!!  Your going to have a blast!!  :woot: And getting as prepared as possible is the best thing to do.  If you ever have any questions about anything, I know somebody here will help you out for sure.   In the mean time, I hope you brouse the site and then you will see that there is a ton of information here that can help you out.  Good luck to you this year, and again welcome to MNO!!   :toast:

As a bow hunter / clean garments & being scent free is important but ,  you can play the wind game -- You can get away with not having scent lock this or scent blocker that .......!!!!

Play the wind & only hunt where you can take advantage of that ..... You dont want to booger up an area if you know any mature & wise deer are ............ Element of surprise is key there!!!!

Make sure you have FAITH in your equipment ........ If you dont have faith in your equipment  - You should be using it .......

Try to be as scent free as possible, learn every time you go out, practice shooting all the time, most of all have fun!

There is more information about hunting than any first year person could ever absorb, just don't get intimidated by things, and ask all sorts of questions when stumped.
