Well I made it out this weekend and was trying the Rage 2 blade broadhead. I've never used a mechanical broadhead and thought I never would. Well finaly a few friends and my brother had me convinced to try it out. I didn't see a deer all weekend until Sunday night. A doe stepped out on the food plot right before legal shooting hours were done. It was raining hard but I wasn't going to let that stop me from putting meat in the freezer. She didn't have any fawns with her so I drew back when she gave me a broadside shot. When I released she jumped facing almost directly away from me. I hit her but it didn't know how good it was. Well we got on a lot of blood right away and followed her just a little ways to see where she was heading because we knew we wouldn't have blood in the morning. Well this morning at first light we went out and searched and found a few spots of blood then there was non. (stupid rain) Well I prayed to find something and no more than got done with that and I was standing in a pool of blood. After a hour and a half of seeing no blood you could imagine my excitement. I yelled for my brother and withing 15 min I was gutting my first deer of the season. If I would've been using a fixed blade I know I would've not done damage enough to kill this deer quickly. Let's just say the shot was not anything I would brag about. It was embarressing but I found it thanks to the enterance hole the rage 2 blad made and God.
Let the small bucks walk. Don't assume the neighbors will shoot them if you don't. If you shoot him what chance does that buck have to grow......ZERO!

Yeah we took pictures and I'll post them as soon as I get them on my computer. But trust me it isn't a pretty shot. How do I post pictures on here?

Ok here is the pics and like I said it isn't pretty. She must of jumped at the last second because I had a good very slightly quartering away shot.....pretty much broadside. The arrow entered her hind leg and came out just behind the rib cage. Along the way it slit open her stomach a little. Trust me I'd never take a shot that was questionable. This is why it's called hunting. I'm so glad I found her!

before I started gutting her. I have a feeling I'll be catching some crap for this.....Don't worry if I can handle my brother ridding me ever since then I can be a good sport about catching crap from you guys. It's all well deserved on my end I know.

You can see the exit hole on this shot if you look up by the rib cage. This is why I will use the rage from here on out. They say the rage makes a bad shot a kill shot.....Well this is the worst shot I've ever made on a deer.

So wait a minute, let me get this straight, "When I released she jumped facing almost directly away from me".  Are you sure this is what happened?  This is a slightlly different story than I remember hearing Sunday night

Well Viking2233 I thought I hit her good when I shot. I didn't actually see her jump because it happened so quick. That is the only thing that could've happened though judging from her being broadside when I released and where the arrow went in and exited. Oh but may I remind you that I do remember a bet that took place and I did win that bet. So I would like it if you and "Filbert" AKA Matt could purchase that new trail camera as soon as possible that would be great.

Just count your blessings that I didn't shoot a trophy. A shoulder mount is a tad bit more expensive then the cameras we agreed on.

I wouldn't call it a lucky shot as much as I'd call it a lucky recovery. But thank you. That rage is something else.

I hope that "thank god for the rage" is in my vocabulary tomorrow.  I posted in the "heading to my stand" thread about the buck I shot tonight and had to leave over night because the trail got sparse and the flash lights were running out.  All I remember from the shot was the arrow going through the back part of the shoulder and about 18 or my 28 inch arrow sticking out.  Or at least I hope it was that much.  I have not found the other end of the arrow yet so i am not sure.  I will be out as soon as it is light in the morning looking.  The deer bolted tail down so i think i have a pretty good hit on it.  Maybe just one lung?  It also doesn't help that there is no exit hole for blood.  Maybe the hunting Gods will be with me tomorrow morning.  I think i am already going to have to be pretty lucky to salvage the meat.  luckily it is in a swamp that felt pretty cool already tonight at about 8:00 and the fact that it is near Stacy, MN a little farther north so it will get a little cooler.  I just might have a chance!  to be continued...

Yeah let us know if you find that deer. Good luck. The where the rage entered it should be a pretty big hole and it sounds like you were in the boiler room.
