New to the forum and have learned a lot, thanks to everyone that has posted. I was wondering if anyone has any insight as to how the lunar phases affect how and when the deer move around. Earlier, later, under more cover, or less cover? I hunt mostly deep woods in the evening because I work early in the morning and have never really had any luck seeing anything when its near a full moon. Anyone have similar expriences or observed patterns?

From what I've read and have seen is that deer move when the moon is at the highest peak above us and directly below us. During a full moon deer will move during the middle of the day and the middle of the night. Now like this weekend for me it was windy and raining so deer just didn't move at all where I was at. I seen one deer and ended up getting her. I've always had good luck during the rain but not the wind. I hunt my food plots during full moons mid morning until about 2pm. It's tough to train yourself to hunt during that time. When it's hot out and the sun is shinning it's even tougher to think it's prime time but in my expierience and my hunting friends it has paid off enough times to keep us in the woods during that time.
Let the small bucks walk. Don't assume the neighbors will shoot them if you don't. If you shoot him what chance does that buck have to grow......ZERO!

There's been a lot written about hunting being better or worse during full moon.  I guess if you are a professional hunter and have all the time in the world you could time a hunt with the moon phases.  For me, I usually hunt when time and weather permit.  I can't recall a time when I got up and said "dang, I'd love to go hunting but it's the wrong moon phase".    :rotflmao:
Anyway, from many years of hunting, I can't say it's better one way or another.  What I do know is that if you have a day when the wind blows, temps are dropping, it snows/sleets late into the night, and the next morning is still, sunny and cold, hang on to your hats because the deer will be running everywhere! :fudd:

I don't know for sure but I have been using my trail cam more this year on my food plot. Before this moon got big and bright the deer were out until about 9 in the morning and came out early around 5 in the evening. Since the opener with the big moon they're just not out. In my opinion they are out at night with the moon right now. Sort of gave up on the weekend of rain. Hunted last night until dark and had one doe come out right before dark and passed on her. I have a very large buck roaming my area and I doubt I might have a chance at him until the moon is dark, jmo.

i noticed whatever time of day it is as soon as the weather breaks they move, no matter if its early morning late afternoon or around 3 in the afternoon, there only thing on there mind is to feed after harsh weather,(except during the rut) i have multiple big bucks patroling my area and they just arent moving, dont know what they were doing this morning because i didnt go out, i wont be back out until this friday or saturday.
