I know there are several members here on MNO that take part in a deer camps.  This year we will have 11 people hunting in our group by Upper Red Lake.  A lot of times there are people in hunting partys that don't like to gut out their deer.  Who in your hunting party is your designated gutter?

My grandpa was for years in our group.  Since he passed away, I have taken on the role of offical "deer gutter".  I don't mind it at all.  We do have other that will gut deer (including my 75 year old grandma).

Who guts the deer in your party?

Sounds good MnMoose.  The more the merrier.

I believe at our camp its like beeker said.  We all take care of our own.  If anyone really couldn't or didn't want to, there would be no hesitation by one of us to take care of it.

I am waiting to hear from GG.  I am pretty sure she would  :puke: if she had to gut her own deer.

My dad and cousin are like that  :puke: .  I would rather have them hunting with me and gut their deer for them, then have them stay home.   :happy1:

We have all gutted deer in our camp, however my Dad (Zotar) normally does most of the gutting by choice. We all get together and butcher our own deer as well. My Dad used to work at Hormel's in Austin, so he has taught us over the years how to get the most meat out of the deer along with the entire butchering process.   :happy1:

My dad does his own but I try to do it for him. My brother is alergic to the hide so I gut his. My wife still needs to learn how. She tried once but the impatient guy I am, get out of my way and I gut hers. I also gut my own. If younghunt13 gets one this year I will have to be patient and teach him or have grandpa teach him or I will end up gutting his to.

We all gut our own except Ma.  First person there will do it for her no questions asked.  I am the camp skinner, and everybody else debones the meat.  After the meat is off the bone I am in charge of lighting a BIG fire to burn all of the bones.  Great way to get rid of them with out feeding the preditors.

I don’t really have a “deer camp” to speak of the last few years I mostly hunt by myself. When I do have others up everybody is responsible for there own unless they are new to deer hunting.

New hunters on there first deer hold legs, light and learn
Second deer I hold legs and light. And remind
Are you a hunter or do you just kill things? Respect the wildlife!

Well if I have to I will gut mine, but If there is someone standing there eager and willing I will sure let them get in there!  :rotflmao:

Then its a totally team effort between all of us from that point until the process is done and the meat is in the freezer and the mess is cleaned up!

We got taught the same thing, you shoot it- you gut it! you catch it- you clean it!

When I do go with a group I end up showing someone how to do it, which I don't mind. I also fell for that stupid "take a bite out of the heart" crap by my friend on my first gut job (and passed it on to my brother and cousin). I have gutted a few for friends over the years that couldn't take the smell, but normally I make them do it with a little direction from me.

Thanks to JWester I will probably be getting a little more "nasty meat" from now on! :happy1:

I hunt with 9 guys and it is usually a race between me and one other to gut the deer we shoot.  The only time it is not a race is when I shoot one.  I think last year was the first time I ever gutted more deer than he did just because I shot several when he was not around.

I think there are a few guys that don't want to do it, but if they ever had to they would.

I WOULD NOT, COULD NOT GUT A DEER,
NOT HERE OR NOT THERE,
I WOULD NOT GUT A DEER ANYWHERE!!  :puke:

YOU CAN'T MAKE ME, GG I AM!!  :dancinred:

Is that what you were lookin' for OJ?  I saw you were waiting for my reply!  And yes, I am pathetic, and Yes I KNOW that.  But it is what it is, and it's NEVER going to happen.  I would absolutely gag my brains out, I just could never do it.  I WISH I could, but nope...ain't happenin'! My husband ALWAYS does it for me, and he doesn't mind at all.
....You see, he does little "special things" for me and I do little "special things" for him!!
....now if he DIDN'T gut my deer for me, there would be no more little special things for him....it's called blackmail, I know...but it TOTALLY WORKS!  :rotflmao: Oh AND it's true love!!  :dancinred:

Gut my own deer!!  Yeah right!! Now that is funny, who thought of such a silly thing!!  :rotflmao:

My dad use to be the official gutter, but now that he has been sick for a number of years I have taken over for him.

Two years ago my brother shot his first buck and I "attempted" to teach him how to gut it....but after a few  :puke: I realized that I would be better off doing it myself.  So since then, I am the official gutter.

I have always been the official skinner and quarter/cutter!  My dad thinks I'm sick because I get so much enjoyment out of skinning LOL

My husband used to be the "official" deer gutter, but now that all the kids are hunting with us, I thought I better learn; so about 3 years ago I started gutting my own; it wasn't pretty at first, but it's getting much better...and quicker now.  And when the kids shoot their deer, my husband stands over, holding the legs, and "guides" them as they gut their own.  That's the only way they'll learn.....
