Went for  a ride to check for ice yesterday>>>>>>>>>
Large bays on sw side of Mille lacs ( south of casino) had 3 to 4 inches out to 100-200 yds in spots. I did not check farther out but there was ice out to probably a mile + in some areas. Looks like a west wind blew out the ice farther up the lake
Looks like early fishing this year.
I also checked a few of the smaller area lakes and it varies from open areas to 4"+ ice on most but some have a lot of open water.
As usual use caution on early ice.
I checked Platte and Sullivan and they had 4"+ ice  at 200 yds. Took the finder out with me on Platte and found good numbers of smaller fish in around 20' of water and saw some larger fish from 20' in to around 10'.
I plan to be on Platte this week...Can't miss me..I'm the guy in the Red wolf fur hat  ;D

I'm from the Platte/Sullivan area. We had 5+" out from the access on Platte. Also had a report of Upper Red being completely froze over and having 5" or so.

Yep I can. went out fishing with a friend on Platte today and there was 4+ to 5" out from the landing. We got some decent sunnies and 5  1 to 1 1/2 pound crappies (jigging waxworms and small minnows) and  4 pike over 24". Also got 3 decent bass. Fast action day in about 15 to 20 feet of water. Lost one fish that broke  an 8 lb leader, gotta be more patient We were fishing near where Platte flows into Sullivan
The temps up here have not gone above freezing for about 2 weeks. Whatever the temp is in the cities you can subtract 10 to 15 degrees most of the time. I figure we are making 1"+ of ice a week here now.

well so much for the Mille Lacs ice. The wind today and last night blew most of it up onshore....The bay just south of the casino held its ice pretty good though.
