Lake Geneva report 8/9/06

Today I fished with client Ed Mueller and we started at 5:15 am in search of the battling smallmouth bass. I set Ed up with 2 ultra light rods since that's his favorite way of fishing. Eddie enjoys the "do nothing fishing method" while I worked the Carolina rigs all day. Our first 45 min was slow with mostly Gills and rockies.

We hop scotched around ( short moves) until I was able to figured out what the mood of the day was for the smallies. Some days it's like you have to experiment with the depths and presentations until you figure out the one small thing that makes the difference on that particular day, but that's what makes Geneva a challenging fishery. We managed 19 smallmouth today and lost a good 9 others. We fished from 25 to 37 fow with today's best action in 26 to 28 ft.

We did find that the bass were schooling and seemed to hang in an area longer if you had some kind of bait in the water at all times. Once and a while that's hard to do between tangles, reties, netting fish & stolen baits, but it is crucial to keep them interested with some offering in the water at all times.
