Alright I need someone with a little experience here...I started tying my own Jigs about a year ago because it was going to be -20 all weekend long and I figured I needed a new hobby because I did not want to leave the house.  What I need to know is when buying thread is the higher the "Denier" number (for example 210 Denier) the more coarse it will be?  I have been using 210 Denier and when I am trying to wrap it tight sometimes it freys.  Also do many of you guys use hair jigs?  I have been way into them for about a year now and have had some real good results. Thanks in advance.

I started tying flies when I was about 12, so naturally I thought I could answer this (or so I thought). I scoured through my thread I had and everything had a number of 8/0, 10/0, or 12/0.

Maybe the type of thread you are using is specific to jigs? From past experience I have not had a problem using a finer type of thread to wrap hair jigs, but then again I tied some small ones.

As far as how the hair jigs work for panfish, or for trout that is, shhh............ :rotflmao:

PM me with any more questions about tying and I'll see if I can help.
Marry an outdoors woman. Then if you throw her out into the yard on a cold night, she can still survive.

Thanks Lex, I think there is two rating systems for the tying thread.  I havd seen the one you referenced in the stores to.  I might just have to head to the store and do some investigation as well, but I will probably PM you also for some tips and ideas.  Thanks!
