I'm really not a Turkey hunter but If I was this would be my dream Turkey gun. I have shot a SP-10 for over 10 years for geese

This is the Remington SP-10 Turkey shot gun

Ithaca Model 37, 30" barrel, full choke.
Here's to a long life and a merry one.
A quick death and an easy one.
A pretty girl and an honest one.
A cold pint-- and another one!

Ithaca Model 37, 30" barrel, full choke.

Tough to beat those 37 Ithaca's..I'm kicking myself for passing up a 20ga ultra Featherlight. What a idiot!!! 4 & 3/4 pounds 25 inch Mod barrel..what a sweet heart

I had one of those 10 ga singles, my dad still has one

I have had the same box of shells since..... well since I bought it over 2 years ago. Well over half a box left! Its a good one for goose hunting with young ones. Let them take the quick wild shots, then reach out and finish em with the cannon! I only use it maybe a few times a year. I've yet to do any turkey hunting so to speak of but when that time comes I've got the gun for it!

I have killed all of mine with my 20+ year old Browning BPS 12ga. 3" chamber with a 28" barrel and super full choke with "HEVI 13" #5's. I think the choke is the HS strut Widowmaker if I remember right. I don't believe you need a 10ga. to kill turkeys. Heavy to tote around the woods if you want move I think. If you call them in close you could use a .410. Most of my birds have been at 15 yards or less. The thrill for me is seeing just how close I can get them in before getting busted!!!!

I agree... a 10g is on the side of overkill... but it sure is puttin alot of shot in the air! ;) the shells I use are Activ #5  2 1/8 oz max load 3" nickel plated shot shells...they dont have the typical brass, all plastic, (except a metal plate insert for the primer) enabling more room for shot and powder...pretty much a 10g load.training-087... bad thing, they no longer are being made, and I only have 3 left! (three birds worth :whistling:)  My 12g Rem express is lighter than heck, has a 21" bbl with fiber optic rifle sights, I have a widowmaker on it now also and with the combo of tube & those shells have taken turkeys easily even outside of 45yds, though 15-20yds is smarter if ya can talk them toms in that range... but somtimes they just wont go those extra yds  :banghead: yeah I know people that have used 20g's turkey hunting, you just need to know your shot & what your gun/shells are capable of...  Auggie, yore definatly right on that the best thing is callin em in close... the coolest is having that flock surrounding you, having hens and jakes in arms reach not letting ya move on a tom so close that youre hearin him boom while bumpin your decoys around... it dont get too much better then that does it?! :happy1:

You got that right! :happy1: April can't get here soon enough! I just wish we had more time to spend in the woods here. I just can't get my fix in 5 days! We go out west to the Blackhills every year. Sometimes twice. Close to opener and then we try and hit it when we get the report that the hens are starting to set. That is turkey hunting out there. Not so locked down by property boundaries, length of season, or weather. If it is poor weather hear you almost need to hunt as you have little time. You can hunt all day and be on the move out west if you want. Rarely run into another hunter. Is it April yet???
